this is most likely due to either bad media being used, a bad image(copy) being used or a very very very slow computer being used....good luck in the future and make sure your image isn't corrupt.

Peace.

I would first check that your media supports burning at higher speeds.

If your burner burns perfectly at 2.4x and only has problems at higher speeds, it could be a media problem.

Hey I Know this is a little off topic but i didnt know where else to put it as i am a total newbie to backing up games. I have a 1 DUal layerd dvd burner the pioneer DVR-111DSV which alot of pepople said they have been using. SO i disassembled it used the hotswap method to back up my copy of call of duty two and that worked fine. However I have tried repeating the same method with GEARS OF WAR THP8 and Saints row and half way through ripping it to my pc from my pioneer writer its says it has encountered an error and continues on with antohther part of the disc. Could some one tell me what im doing wrong either by PM or at the bottom of this message or could you please point me in the direction of someone who might know. Sorry for being a pain but any help would be greatl;y appreceiated!

Many thanks in advance

hi elbowz,

it is off topic wink.gif to maric thread.

you can give a look at the wxripper tutorials in this section.

are you importing your layout file or using the one generated by the dvd used to find the magic number?

you can import the first few lines (If you need to) but the last three must remain the one you found with the magic number button. If that is not the case then things go wrong half way were the magic number intervenes in the process.

if you want to continue this , plse open a thread.

It can be hit and miss at those speeds.  Might I suggest trying 4x or 6x burns.  Also as above which DVD-ROM drive do you have?

I'm kind of skeptical about the ide cable being the problem, but if it is, get N82E16812105910 on newegg. If your drive is making scratching noises, thats a bad sign. RMA it and get N82E16827131039 , I haven't made a coaster yet. Also, I recommend always burning at 2.4x, it makes the media easier to read on the 360 and is more reliable.

Honestly people's success with the firmware varries so I recommend trying it with what you get out of the box (Will probably V1.29 at this point), if that doesn't work then try Dangerous Brothers V1.29 firmware (what I currently use) and if that doesn't work then go with the Buffalo firmwares (8.xx revisions).  You can find them all at http://www.rpc1.org.  You still haven't answered the media question though, which are you using?  Verbatim are by far the most hassle free media, so I suggest switching to them if you haven't already.

Nope, the 80wire IDE cable is a definite problem with the 111D.  If you don't have the 80wire cables then you won't get the burner to work properly. . .PERIOD.  That being said if you don't have any 80 wire cables then you have a very old or very crappy machine as virutally all computers that have been released within the last 5-6 years have 80 wire IDE cables.

Cant check which firmware version my pioneer has at the moment, cause Im at my parents house over the holidays.
Im using verbatim and my drive is a hitachi.
The firmware on my hitachi is pretty old though, cause I never had any luck flashing it with the gary opa releases.
Flashed it with the birdy software flasher back then.
Maybe Ill try to flash it again with the new toolbox 3.0.
And thanks for the info.

I got Pioneer 710 ( black) from Bestbuy before Christmas for $39. I tried to install into my desktop and everytime I boot my PC the dvd writer tray opens automatically. Is that normal?. Is 710 equalivalent to 111D? I got retail box with drive, software and even mounting screws. Since the tray keep ejecting itself, I removed and keep using my Sony dru 800a instead. Should I try dangerous bros fw?  smile.gif

For Verbatim's DVD+R DL discs, I believe the "official" burn speed is still 2.4x.  They don't guarantee a higher burn speed.  They state that some drives with the nexessary firmware may burn them at higher speeds upto 8x.

Try the new 10-pack and see how they work.

Alright well finally recieved my replacement drive. I chose to go with the same Pioneer 111d in hopes that it was just a faulty drive. I have to say that it was the a bad drive since I burned 3 backups at 8x with no problems! Also I didn't hear that scratching noise my faulty drive was given me.

Things I change were obviously get a new burner and I also did get a new IDE cable which now doesn't give me a "80 cable....." at startup anymore. But yeah I did waste like 12 to 14 coasters because newegg sent me a bad drive.
