I've given up on Memorex.  Sometimes I've gotten good ones, sometimes I've gotten bad ones.  You can even buy two spindles and get two different looking discs.  That shows they are using multiple sources and probably whatever dye they can get that week.  I flash systems for people and always test a disc or two after flashing to make sure it works ok and have found that the hitachi's seem to be more picky with the memorex's although I've had some samsungs that won't read a stack of memorex at all but with read verbatim after verbatim in a row.

Good to know others experiences, I would say based on others responses go with the Verbatim's! Fortunately I only purchased 3 Memorex Discs and they worked, so after reading the above posts I went and purchased Verbatims for all future use!

I have a Hitachi 47DJ and Memorex work like crap on my drive...on my friend's drive (Hitachi 47DH) they work better but not flwlessly compared to Verbatims. I gave up on Memorex long ago...hate that sh*t =/

thats what pot adjusts are for. the samsung can read any type of media from my experience and be fine, but when you put cheap media into a hitachi, it dosent like it, and you dont wanna ruin your laser from a pot tweak! so i would allways use verbs, to be safe in every situation!  biggrin.gif

I'm using Memorex on my Hitachi 47dj burned with a Pioneer DVR-111D and have had a few coasters, usually in the burning process. Out of 16 about 5 were coasters. I think it might've been a firmware issue on my burner thought. Since updating from 1.23 to 1.29 firmware, I've had no more coasters. The way I see it, even if 1 out of every 4 don't burn properly, I'm still ahead because I paid $25 CDN for a 25 spool (bought 2 spools) on a boxing day sale at FutureShop. Not my intent to be cheap but Verbs are scarce in my town.

Hello All,

Before I ever got into the XBOX modding game I became much more involved in "backing up" dvd -9's to Dvd 5's.  You learn quite a bit about good media burning something close to 2000 dvd's over the last three years. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt Memorex is the worst Media in the world. It is made by multiple manufactores that memorex contracts with. You never know what you are going to get. Also most of the time it made by CMC, look them up and see the ratings people give them. Lets put it like this, the 200 dvd's i burned with Memorex media only 9 work today, and this was 3 years ago I burned them at slow speed and kept great care of them. So...if you want to keep your stuff for a few years, don't by memorex. If i have a choice between memorex of nothing, its nothing

So basically if I understand you correctly, even if my Memorex's work fine now, I will have issues in the future? If that's true, I know now why they were on sale...  blink.gif

That may be true based on your findings but half the time when I run into a store in my area..this is all they have to choose from along with Fuji discs. So far I have not had a single problem with any of my backups (knock on wood) and I will continue to use them.

Want to hear something funny..
I've actually had more problems with Verbatims than Memorex. This is for making Xbox360 backups.
They seem to work fine for other media backups or storage. Still, I'm not going to tell everyone on the board to stop buying Verbatims because they don't work for me.

I have CD-R's that have been sitting in a spindle and well taken care of that are memorex. I also have some that I use for audio CD's in my truck that I listen to quite a bit. Many of them are over 5yrs old and they play just as good as the day I burned them. I also have quite a few (more than 9) DVD movies backed up that play and have played in various DVD players. The media that was used was Memorex.

I'm sorry about your luck with Memorex but they do work and until I experience the problems that you claim, I will continue to use this brand. The only time I've had a disc stop working was due to "Label Peeling".

One question. Are you referring to just using Memorex media in general for DVD's or everything in the world that we backup on memorex media is going to suddenly stop working within the next 3yrs..? CD-R's..? DVD's..? DVD+R DL's..?

BTW it's "Buy" not by

You will find by using DVD Identifier or similar tools that the Memorex disks, as well as the Fugi, are made by Ridtek.

I used both Brands, verbatim consistent quality. Bought 100 Memorex disks 1-2 bad ones per spindle. later bought 2 10 packs 100% failure rate in 4 different pc's and when going back to the 25 pack spindles wrote fine... Half the price of Verbatim for 5 times the hassle especially when it comes to degradation of the dye which last anything from 2 weeks to 6 months

Success with various media will also largely depend on the burner and firmware you use, as each one will have a different write strategy for a particular media code.  While I haven't tried Memorex (I don't know how many different media codes they might have either), I've had nothing but success with Matrix media across multiple 360s, which most people can't seem to get to work, and I suspect that it's because of the burner I'm using (NEC 7170A with the latest Liggy & Dee firmware).  A good burner can be the difference in terms of readability.

I have a Hitachi 47DJ in my 360 flashed with Maximus-Garyopa Xtreme 2.3 Sealth 8in1 Rev2, using a NEC-3520A burner with the latest firmware (3.07) and verbatim discs for my backups, all of which have worked so far. When I used Memorex, I couldn't backup certain games no matter how many times I tried to burn them and would always get a DDE. I'm not saying Memorex sucks, I'm sure it would be good if I had a different burner or a different 360 drive, but with what I have, switching to Verbatim made all my backups work flawlessly.
