The hacked firmware supports playing original Xbox games.  However, you will need to reburn them to dual layer discs (this might change with the next Xtreme firmware) in the proper Xtreme format that include the necessary information such as the security sectors.  To me, it's not worth the extra effort and money.  My original Xbox sits right next to my 360.  However, this might be a decent option if there's only a few original Xbox games you want to play and you want to get rid of your original Xbox.

Sounds like it's not completely hopeless.
I live in a pretty small apartment so having only one machine hooked up would be nice.

I remember reading an article on X-S about games not necessarily needing DL discs anymore... however i cant seem to find said article... i imagine xbox 1 games will still need reburned with the ss.bin merged in.

No, thats not what that means. The hard drive is required for any xbox games to run on the 360

I tried running a backed up xbox1 game on my flashed 360 AND an original xbox1 game. gave me the same error both times....that I need update 1.0 to run them. Where can I get this update? Also my 360 isnt linked up to the net (I know....I know  blink.gif ) can I burn the update to dl disc and install that way? or save it direct to my 360 HD?

yes

but you have to make your backups differently for the 360. you will have to rerip them. your old backups will not work.
