« on: November 22, 2006, 11:53:00 AM »

Ok so i was browsing the xbox 360 website and it it said on the side, backward compadibility and it said you can either buy or burn the disc

so heres the thing, it explains on how to burn this 6mb file onto a cd or dvd then placing it in ur xbox that doesnt have a firmware update

that has to be something! cuz maybe there is some file in that download that unlockes the drive to make it played burnt games!  check it out

Your point is??
you have always been able to get the backward compat. updates via burning to disc.

in fact, that was the only way i could get splinter cell chaos theory to work on my 360...  you just download the ISO and burn to a CD-R.

it took a couple reboots for it to recognize the disc though

OMG....MS released a file that allows burned games!!!!!!

No.  That is simply an update xex that has the media check flag changed so that it can run from any media.  Nothing can be done with this file, and we can't change xex files to act like this.  Same reason you used to be able to burn the kiosk disc to CD/DVD and have it work.

i think he is talking about figuring out why the 360 can boot that burnt disk but not our burnt copies. figuring out why the 360 reads that disk could help with backups. not having to mod the firmware.

It has been known for months....like I said above....it has to do with the media flag in the xex file.  Same thing that there was on the xbox xbe files.  Only problem is....changing any part of any xex file, will invalidate the signature....therefore we can't just change the media flag.
