Hi, do you really have to use the Samsung SH-d162c drive, or is there  other drives reported that can work to make our backups?

I own a HP 740b drive and Sony DRU-720A drive. would these work? anyone know?? Thanks

you either use the samsung sh-d162c or use your xbox360's dvd drive. your pick.
it's just easier to buy the samsung drive

1. Put your xbox 360 game disk in the SH-D162C and wait for windows to recognize it. Then open up Xbox Backup Creator. click on the Drive Tools tab and click Unlock Drive.

2. Click on the Read tab and then click start. This will bring up a box asking you to name the file thats going to be created and to set the location to save it as well. Name it game.iso

3. 15 minutes later, when it is done, you will have two files. One called game.iso and another called game.dvd.

4. Make sure your blank dl dvd is in you dvd burner, then click the write tab and select your burner in the drop down and click on start. Navigate to the game.dvd file and open it.

Xbox Backup Creator should start burning the image after you select it.

HI guys, maybe someone can help.

I have a samsung sh-d162c rom, flashed with the Kreon v080 file, and followed the directions above. I burn on a DL dvd+r disk. It completed burn @ about 30 minutes. I put in the backup game I just made, and fired up the xbox360 and it started it up and a note on the tv screen said the following:

"TO PLAY THIS DISC, PUT IT IN AM XBOX360  CONSOLE"

Auh,, It is, lol . so what am I doing wrong? Any help? Thanks!!

%%% the only thing I did not do was "Navigate to the game.dvd file and open it.". do I do that on the xbox360?

How do I navigate the game? lol or I am not sure what that means..... doh!!

Well, I guess I can chime in, Im a n00b and just learn from experience. My first 360 had a hitachi 47dj. Flashed with the most current firmware from the date of this post.

Though the guides help, A LOT of them are not clear that with the hitachi, you are pretty much screwed on making backups. Still convincing you that using the isobuster way will work. So I found the only possible way which was the wxripper way. It works, but man, I dont like it at all. Doesn't seem reliable, and having to have a dvd-rom ripped apart.  And if you have CRC errors it just makes things confusing. And it just doesn't "feel" like a 1:1 copy.

At this point I had finally found out this was the only way if you had a hitachi drive, or get that samsung dvd-rom. If the following did not happen, I would have resulted in this. A little investment, for worry free backups.

Well then I ended up getting another 360 with a samsung ms25. I have so many options, but use textbook.pdf guide which said to use XBC. Simple program that seems to rip everything. It works great.

The unreliability of grabbing ss.bins with the hitachi, and the numerous things already stated on this site, just got me frustrated.

Again i'm a n00b, so this is just my experience from the first week of experimenting. Though the hitachi is a lot easier to flash.

This leads me back to the topic of the thread. Is XBC the best way to make a backup? As close as 1:1 as possible? Or is it better to use the isobuster/ss merger/dvdinfopro method?

Im new at this mod thing. But i had a quick question for anybody out there:

People are saying that all the new xbox 360 games now require u to get an update from microsoft in order to play the game. The update disables the firmware mod to the dvd. Is this true??? If thats the case then doesnt that mean the firmware mod to the dvd become useless eventually?

Thanks
