I'd personally go for one of the LiteOn's.  My internal LiteOn works great for Samsungs and Hitachis with decent media.

Go for the pioneer 111D since it is proven to work for so many ...

You wanna use it externally? No problem, you can still get the internal pioneer 111D, just get a IDE-USB conversion kit. The kit comes with IDE-USB cable + external power supply, easily less than US$20 ...

Get yourself a few of those rounded non-slip rubber pad and paste them on the pioneer 111D and that's it! You have yourself an external pioneer 111D drive. Though it is not as 'pretty' as those real external DVD drive but who cares? It is cheap (compared to those) and it does its job well ...

I burnt things this wayl and even my samsung D162C drive was done using the same method ...

It doesn't have to be 111D, 111L and even 110D is good enough ...

If still running out of options, check out the pinned thread of 'Post Your Tested Working Burner And Media (and Mobo) '. Look for those successful stories and the drive and media used ...

I don't see what the big deal is with the pioneer burner.  Yes it burns 360 games well, but So does my Sony 800A. Burns them perfectly and I don't see people ranting and raving about it. Just get over the 111D pioneer burner, Sony 800A works just as well.

SONY's are rebadged lite-ons   sony=Liteon

Lite-ons are improving with every new firmware release, they are average dual layer burners, so they are fine for burning DL/

The Plex-760 and Pioneer are considered the best DL burners around, doesnt mean you need them in order to burn readable DL 360 media.

why dont you just get one, try it and if it doesnt work out for you return it. i dont see anything wrong with that. and you work there so...

and btw, i understand you work there adn will probably get like a 15% discount or something. but to be honest the pioneer will only total you 34 dollars including shipping nad it will most likely get to you in like 1 or 2 business days. order today get it by Tuesday. i dont think you are in a rush to play backups... since you have the originals. so you may as well go with the tested and confirmed always working pioneer. its cheap, its sturdy, and it comes in two colors. u cna put it in your own external casing if you ever want to do that and it should work just fine. use your discount to get yourself the casing, use newegg or something for the drive. thats what i recommend. OR, jjust get the lite-on. i know plenty who have success with it. or get the sony. just get whatever is cheap and what people tell you works. i guess i havent been very helpful at all smile.gif its a pretty stupid question if you ask me. just read the forums... people have posted success and failure all over the place.

Yes. Both pioneer 111D and Samsung SH-D162C works super with IDE-USB cable. It is my current setup as mentioned above, though not "pretty" but I don't care. Portable for me to bring those drives around even to work to do backup smile.gif

Just make sure you bought a IDE-USB kit that works for ATAPI devices(DVD-ROM). I think some are only for harddisks only.

heh.. this has been discussed sooo many times that id like to close this thread, however you arent asking about the best burner, you are asking about the best of the ones you have available.

we all know the 111d is hands down the best, yes, im ranting and raving.. only because no other burner has worked flawlessly for so many people with either 360 DVD drive.

newegg.com
shop4tech.com
supermediastore.com

all have great service, fast ship, and good prices... i wouldnt be surprised if you got it for 30 shipped at one of those.
