Drive Used to rip?

Firmwares?

The .dvd file is a just a text information file. It needs the image file as well.

The drive I used to rip and burn is a Pioneer 111D.  I'm wondering if my problem is that I used wxripper to rip and isobuilder to make the .dvd file.  Are those two programs compatible?  If I do use SS Merger, should I just ignore the "iso file too big" warning?

A good step would be to get rid of the "getss" process and use drivetools to get your SS instead. I have never spoke to anyone that got that working 100%

I have a Hitachi 47dJ and a pioneer 111D and since I started using drivetools ive made over 10 backups with no coasters.

some advice :

Try extracting your ripped ISO with wx360, that will tell you if your rip is ok. Also if you do an MD5 online check when prompted in SS merger 1.6 your iso (before its merged) should noprmally come back as a recognised game.

Use WxRipper to rip game data,  Drivetools to rip your SS and SS merger to merge the two (of course).
Use IMGBurn to burn with a user specified layer break at 1913760  

This is the setup i have and it works for me all the time

I can't use drivetools, the get ss button is grayed out for me.
I tried the MD5 online check and after a couple of minutes SS Merger came up as not responding.  When I tried extracting in wx360 before the merge, it gives me this:



...and that doesn't look normal.

What version of the hitachi drive do you have mate ? and how are you connecting it to your pc ?

v46.  It is flashed with Opa Xtreme 2.2  I connect it to my PC using a Sata cable.
Tomorrow if I get time I'm going to try another game, and if I get the same problem, I'm wondering if my Pioneer 111D (that I rip and burn with) is faulty.  It plays movies just fine, but this is just weird what's happening.

Its much more likely that your software setup is wrong rather than your hardware faulty, before you go swapping it out I would try uninstalling your wxripper and your .Net framework.  Download the latest version of .Net ( not an upgrade to an old one but the full v2. latest one you can)  then put wxripper back on and see what happens.  Are you changing the default setting in wx by any chance ?  Dummy lines or anything ?

If you get the same issues then its time to think about a new ripping drive, I have a samsung 162c with a krone  firmware and I now use xbox backup creator which is awesome btw, cost me about £25 on ebay,well worth it in my opinion, also no need to link the hitachi up to the pc to read SS is great news.

I found that wxripper works brilliantly on certain drives but really badly on others, and i never tested the 111d as I didnt own one then. 8(

getss has never failed for me.

With the latest ImgBurn, you do not have to specify the break, the program can read it out of the .dvd file.

Yea there is definitely something wrong with that rip.

Thanks, I'll try that, but I'm almost positive I've got the latest .Net framework, as when I first installed wxripper, it wouldn't run because I didn't have the latest .Net framework, so I installed it just to get wxripper to work.  
As for the default setting in wxripper, for Hitman I had to change the layout file, as I was getting a CRC at whatever point most people got a CRC at for Hitman (can't remember the number off-hand), so I followed the tutorial on what to change to a dummy line, and this is what I got.

I thought XBC was only for use in certain DVD drives, mainly Samsungs.  I remember reading that Pioneers don't work with XBC, unless I'm wrong?  

I'm 99% positive my ss.bin file is correct, anyway.

Thanks for your help, guys.  First I'll try to dump a different game, and if I get the same problem, I'll re-install wxripper and .Net.

Maybe your hotswap disc is not big enough? It is odd that the final image file comes out to be so small... almost like most of the actual game data is missing.

Nope, I used Lord of The Rings - Return of The King, which is about 7.9 gig.  I hit "find magic number" after swapping - maybe if I did it before swapping, it'd make a difference?  

Anyway, I reinstalled wxripper, .Net framework, AND tried a different game (Ghost Recon), and when I tried to open the iso of Ghost Recon with wx360, the program threw an exception and quit.  

I don't have the time right now to gamble on getting yet another DVD drive to take apart, so I think I may hold off for now - either that or get my friend to trade me his Sammy 360.  I really do appreciate the help though, guys - I've had trouble getting much help on these forums, and it's good to see there's people who want to help.  

BTW - where can I find a Samsung 162c if I wanted one?  I looked at newegg, ebay & CDW and there's nothing.

Well, I used Fellowship of the Ring . I usually hit "Find magic number" before swapping. Followed this: http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=539922 which also shows hitting it before. I think you should try that before replacing the drive.
