@jesterrace777 thats great, yes I know next to nothing about all those tests and what not that you guys run just to show how inferior other discs are.

but I was just stating my personal experience and opinion, and the fact of the matter is, A LOT of people dont really care about quality. and for those who don't, I will speak up to give those people an option. Yes you can get the verbs for cheap (if you wait for sale/online/wrebate), but again, there are people who would rather not deal with rebates, or order online. Some consumers would just like to go out to their local store and pick out the cheapest thing. If they happen to go out at the proper time, and luck is on their side, that day they see the verbs for $25 for 20 with no rebates, of course that would be the optimal choice. Unfortunately that is almost always never the case.

Thanks for pointing out how much more advance DVD+DL discs are and my CDR example does not hold weight in the compare/constrast. I guess the only real way is through the test of time. In a few years, I'll reply back to this thread and give you results.

btw, I never implied that you guys were full of crap based on my last reply about success with memorex. don't make me look like the bad guy here, again i was just giving my success basd on the subject of the thread.

you are right there, it was a gamble. when I went into the store knowing my intentions, and already knowing that verbs were the discs to get, and seeing that they didnt carry them, it was a gamble. because dvd+dls are not cheap. i took that said gamble and got the memorex, and havnt had a problem. and people who have too, shouldnt, unless they are doing something wrong.

tested and working on

I wasn't going after you.  I was merely pointing out why a number of us get after other folks (ie the ones who try to claim that because cheap media works for them that it will work for anyone and there is absolutely no reason to go with high quality discs such as Verbatim).  As far as the disc prices go, I guess I can understand why some would want to be lazy and just get the best deal up front but at the same time I want people to realize that Verbatim aren't these horribly expensive discs that a number of people make them out to be and in a number of cases if they are willing to deal with a rebate and do a little searching they can easily find deals that are either the same price or less as the cheap discs that many advocate.  I guess the other thing to consider is that Memorex is famous for changing out their media manufacturers at the drop of a hat.  So far they are sticking with Ritek but the next batch you buy could easily be from another manufacturer witch has very different quality standards.  Verbatim on the other hand always uses Mitsubishi Chemicals dyes (or another Mitsubishi affiliate) and so you have a much better idea of what to expect from batch to batch.  I guess it's just me but at over $1 a disc the price of a coaster is just too expensive.  Either way when all is said and done the most I have spent on any D/L Verbatims has been $1.47 a disc.

verbs are the only dvd dl that give me an open tray error and thats just a fact  they may be better in the long run (and we still have to see about that) but i get a open tray wit verbs after so long but memorex never have gave me this problem

verbs being the best well i think one person said it and everybody took it and ran wit it

No sir, multiple tests conducted by media experts all over the net prove otherwise.  It is true that some configurations seem to get along better with cheap media but there are a number of variables to consider (ie burner, 360 DVD-ROM/firmware, software used to produce backup).  BTW which DVD-ROM drive do you have in the 360?  I know that a number of 360 issues are fixed on the Samsung by doing the rubber band trick.

the guy who just posted the test on the ritek disc burned his disc on 8x correct? Who in their right mind would burn a disc on that high of a setting? I bet if he burned both types of discs on 1x it would be similar quality.

Wrong, both disc burnt at 2.4x, both disc scanned at 8x. I did put that info in the post.

I'm new at the scanning side of things but every cheap disc I've scanned scans fine untill the layer break then it just goes off askew. But I keep mentioning this, every disc I've burnt verbs and cheap media have worked 100% on my 360. No one is saying cheap media will not work on your 360, just your less likely to have coasters with quality media.

Yeah and just exactly how much experience do you have burning D/L discs?  Sorry but anyone who has burned D/L discs knows YOU CANNOT BURN THEM SLOWER THAN 2.4x.  As for burning discs at 8x, I have burned a number of discs at 8x with no problems.  Not saying that it will work for everyone but some of my best scans have come from D/L Verbatim that are burned at 8x.

i had some problems with the memorex discs not booting, but they've been working fine recently. it wouldn't read some backups even after being power cycled several times, but it's working fine now. knock on wood...

If you have a late model Benq you can do accurate error rate scans.  Just pick up the latest version of Nero CD/DVD Speed and you will be good to go:
