Backups Burnt On Lite-on Dvdrw Shm-165p6s Wont Run On Hitachi 47dj
« on: September 21, 2006, 07:29:00 AM »

i cant get my backups to work , i'm using this burner LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165P6S with firmware MSOP, and have tries MSOM also and no joy,
my xbox drive is a hitachi 47dj , with opa-xtreme2.1 (flashed 3 times to make sure its correct)
i have set the booksetting to dvd-rom and used cdclone to burn @ 2.5x (but when you watch it burn the speed varies between 3 and 4x
on some backups i get disc un reconised at the bottom of dash and on others i get a black screen and a tab from the right with an error sayind disc isunreconisable, dirty or damaged
i have tweaked the pot down as far as 2.80 and nothing(original was 3.24)
i tried the hdd trick and the video switch trick i booted with game in same errors , i tried everything so is there anything left for me to try apart from getting a pioneer 111d?

Put your backups back in the PC drive, open up DVDInfoPro and click the Media tab and check the booktype.  If it's DVD+R DL, there's your problem.  Use the Lite-On Bitsetting Utility.

If it's DVD-ROM, then you should just buy a Pioneer or reflash with the mediapatch v2.

Check the book type as Textbook mentioned. If it is correct then try reflashing using this (you must find it):

Birdy_Hitachi-LG_friendly_Flasher_v2.2_with_Xtreme_v1.3_and_2.0 mediacheck2_FIXED.rar

I have used it on all versions of Hitachi at least 2x on each version and it has worked great.

You dont mention what media your using. If its not verbatim dual layers then thats probably it.

Its nearly ALWAYS your media. If not its the drive.

Yeah, if you're using verbs, it's probably gonna be that burner, I thought it would be as soon as I saw the thread title to be honest.

You ideally want a pioneer for a hitachi if you can manage it, it will save you money in the long run.

HHHmm I have my doubts,

After I finally decided to mod my X360 with garyopa xtreme 2.1 firmware, I did the backup of all of my 8 games with a liteon 165. They work as well in my Hitachi 47dj and the samsung ms25 I tried.
Maybe   I am just lucky mine work smile.gif .

You have probably checked that by just in case, In some software you need to change booktype for
IPB Image
for DVD+R and DVD+r DL separately. Again, probably Ok but just in case. That was done using IMGBURN 2.1 which I find is the best to change booktype and burn. There is a tutorial on it.

So I have 8 of 9 success ( all at 2.4x burning speed) with liteon and imgburn, the miss was the first one I had changed only the booktype for DVD+R biggrin.gif .

I agree.  I have my doubts too.

I HAD a hitachi v59 flashed with OPA xtreme v2.1.  Its now flashed with Birdy w/ xtreme 1.3 w/ mediacheck.  Why you ask?  Read below.

2 weeks ago, I had two xbox 360s I needed to mod.  One with a Samsung, and one with the hitachi.  I burned a DVD+R DL backup game on a Samsung External USB Burner onto a memorex media.  The game worked beautifuly in the samsung.  It didnt work in the hitachi.

So I went out and bought a Pioneer 111D.  Waited a couple of days to get it, but once I did, the Pioneer burned backups worked on beautifully on my Hitachi (even Verbatim, Memorex, and even Office Depot discs).

Then I got to thinking, why did my first disc not work on the Hitachi if its reading these cheap 70 cent office depot discs.  It can't just be the burner can it?  So I reflashed my xbox 360 back to original, then ran Birdy w/ xtreme 1.3 w/ mediacheck 2 flasher, and the first memorex  DVD+R DL (that I burned on a samsung external burner) worked beautifully in my Hitachi.

I would go back to the samsung external drive w/ Office depot discs and throw away the Pioneer junk, but I already sold it, oh well looks like im stuck with the Pioneer...
