i spent a few days searching for success AND failure stories regarding my memorex drive and that really helped me out a lot to find the *winning* combination of apps that work with this older burner. unfortunately, i made 5 coasters to begin with, but everything is working now and i am very glad i did not have to buy another burner. the 25pack of +R9 media i purchased from newegg.com came with a free shipping plus a 512 mb sd card too so that is a nice bonus.
-Samsung SH-D162C w/TS04_XB360_KREON_V081 to avoid having to make a pc<>360 connection
-Xbox_Backup_Creator_v2.3.0.185 to backup my games straight from the d162c
-Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2 burner w/patched JS0D FW for LiteOn DVDRW SOHW-1673S for media compatibility; the JWS6(stock) firmware also worked for my current media
-RiDATA 25 pack +R/DL(RITEK_S04) was my choice for +R9 media; claims to be up to 8x compatible
-LiteOn BookType135.EXE to adjust +R9 media to DVD-ROM booktype before each burn
-CloneCD v5.2.9.1 to burn perfect discs at 2.4x; imgburn, xbc and nero all burn coasters for me
-all successful burns are working well on my 360 w/Hitachi-LG v47DH & Maximus-Garyopa_XTRM-HITACHI_v2_3_Stealth
i also learned enough to bring my oldest burner, a Samsung TS-H552b, back to life so now i am going to see about making backups with that drive too.
no love with my h552b yet, but someone else has a post in this section about it so hopefully i can figure that drive out soon...
in the meantime, i wanted to figure out why clonecd worked and the other apps failed so i have tried a few more burns with this memorex drive and ended up with some good results. in fact, both imgburn and xbox backup creator are now burning my backups properly so i did not figure out why they failed earlier, but i am chalking it up to being too tired. maybe it was simply the older FW, but everything works well enough now.
i have not tried burning with nero because i was not planing to use it for xbox 360 backups. i actually tried nero the other night hoping it would work when nothing else was working; so i skipped it this time.
