This Is The Worst Damage I've Yet To See
« on: October 12, 2004, 07:14:00 PM »

Completely bodged MB.
In all my repair experience I have never seen a box this torn up.  It's really and truely bad.
The link goes to a URL redir b/c XS censors [no - ip] domains ala: networkboy.**********.  so I can't post direct pics either.  really worth the read though!.

While I'm sure I could fix that damage, it does look like quite the hack job with an X-acto knife!

I dunno either. It seems like they used a soldering iron without solder and just rubbed it all over the place. The traces are completely screwed, so I'm gonna attempt to remove the traces, then solder about 7 jumpers to bypass that mess. I don't know if it's worth it, but if I can get it working again, it will be a nice accomplishment for me!

Just remember if its for nothing more then pure self acomplishment go for it.
But a new motherboard would be cheaper then spending the time to fix that if your doing it for comercial reasons. Cause if you ask me that looks deliberate, and as for the pics that network boy put up....most of that seemed purely diliberate amazing how stupid people can be, i dont solder much at all and was EASILY able to acomplish my 2.3b xecuter chip +d0 and my rca port mods. just take it slow and easy. 30 watt all the way, flux flux flux

Ya, I've already replace the mobo. I would never sell this with all the bridging I will have to do. Purely self-gratification.

yea, I have a 3com card with the back side FULL of traces that i'm using to practice trace repairs and things. all i know is that flux makes it so much easier, i just take the spots i'm gonna solder to and poor flux all over em, well not poor but you know what i mean. then i just get to it. Been getting pretty good at it too!
But that, omg...I wanna see pics when you finish with that one bud

Networkboy?, I tried looking for the price of repairs on your website, but cannot find them. What do you charge for repairing a motherboard? Feel free to send me a PM if wanted.

just FYI, in case your interested those points you highlighted in yellow (missing components with pads missing) are the TSOP write enable points, there were no compnents there, it appears this guy tried to flash his TSOP before he attempted to install a modchip

yea first time i soldered i wanted to give it a shot, and i'm still surprised my xbox works.  ti's gone thru a xecuter, chameleon, and now a xenium.  for the xecuter it was my first time ever soldering, and dripped solder onto the component next to the lpc (the diode looking thing)  when trying to remove it i took the diode completely off.  surprisingly enuf the xbox still works nad i've had no problems from it.  close call there >_<

Sounds interesting.

Generally here is the way things work.
Repairs start at $40 plus shipping.
you ship me a board (or whatever needs repairing) and I send you a quote.  If you don't like the quote I simply send back your board for the cost of shipping or offer to buy it from you.
All repairs include a top noch solder install including a socketed D0 for easy chip removal, should you choose to upgrade your chip in the future.
If your repair is something I've not seen before, or is otherwise worthy of being on the web I'll post it along with my commentary.
