V47 Hitachi, Lg 4163b, Lg 8163b Anybody?
« on: August 20, 2006, 03:27:00 PM »

I've been doing a lot of reading - seems nobody with an LG DVD writer has gotten a backup to work with a Hitachi v47 drive.

Wondering if someone can verify working or not working with game backups created with this writer.

I used the LG 8163b with WxRipper, also may be a bad idea.

Looking to get a Pioneer 111D, I've been hearing good things about this writer...

Off topic - anyone verify Hitacy v47's ability to get security sectors? I hear getss.exe doesn't work well - Drive info is a good way, and DVDInfo Pro is a way to go aswell.

+++ Are ss.bin's supposed to be identical if you extract the security sector's twice??? +++

With this combonation of drives - and and using various tutorials - I've produced dirty disc games, and games which play the 'put the game in an xbox 360' video.

Alright - I have an answer for all these questions! READ UP

Pioneer 111D ABSOLUTELY CAN make backups - And as far as I know LG 4163B A102 CANNOT make games.

I bought myself a Pioneer DVR-111D today, and burned the exact same .dvd file as I did with the LG - i don't even think I bet-set the backup... but it booted on the 360 flawlessly.

God bless Pioneer.

So for all of you out there with LG burners and v47 Hitachi drives - please - save yourself the headache, and the environment - don't even bother.

And as far as Security Sector extraction being identical each time you extract - i don't think it matters - i was not confident this .dvd would work - but it seems it's good.

Again - I can't stress this - if you follow the tutorials - and you have decient hardware - you'll produce working backups. If anything is not right - you'll waste time and money.

Good thing tho - everyone's pit-falls save others from the same fate.

Pioneer 111D (Now a proud owner ... god bless)
LG 8163B for WxRipper
American-Pie 2 DVD for Hot-Swap
Asus P4P800 w/SATA onboard (works with slax frodo edition)
v47DJ Hitachi 360 DVD
Fujifilm DVD+DL Media

Thanks to everyone here for their help - their efforts - and their struggles... I've made it across the finish line - hope everyone else makes it too.

This is crazy man.  The Pioneer has been recieving rave reviews in other departments but the fact that it seems to be one of the few burners that can consistantly produce working backups on the pickiest 360 DVD-ROM drives is beyond me.  In thoery the other burners should do the job providing you are using quality media and setting the booktype to DVD-ROM (and of course that the image you are burning was properly made).  I can make heads or tails of why this is happening.  Just makes me glad that I went with the 111D. wink.gif

Go figure...

All the backups I produced with the LG that might have worked were 'dirty disc' or 'incorrect region' discs, and a couple 'insert this disc into a 360' videos played...

I'm using a v47, pioneer 111d might make games that work best with this drive? Who knows - all i know is that i went from trying and trying and trying - wondering what i was doing wrong - then going to never finding anyone with a 4163b claiming a working backup - to saying 'forget this', and going out and buying a 111d.

No lies - I burned the exact same .dvd file with two burners - ld gave dirty disc - 111d gave me the game. And i was sure it wouldn't work. I have other backups still in temp folders - im going to burn them off see if they'll work too.

I'm pretty sure the media you use has little if nothing to do with the outcome of the final product... I used Verbatim's with my LG - 5 of them infact - and two were 'insert into a 360' videos, and other three were 'incorrect region'...

booktype was always dvd-rom.

neways...

Hurray 111d.

I have the LG GSA-H10A burner and guess what no luck with it, backups but when I switched to lite on shw-160p6s the backup boot is perfect (dead rising) and I used Imation brand DVD-DL disk.

P.S I have a Hitachi 47DJ drive.

The big boys have been slacking...

Anyone? 4163b and working games?

I ran into a thread somewhere - some guy was asking for rom A100 for the 4163b - wonder why...

Resurrecting an old topic here, but I would be very interested to know if the LG 4163b is capable of burning a working backup. Has a firmware for either this burner or the hitachi 47d been released that means it now works?
