Burner - Burn Speed - First Time Success Rate
« on: August 18, 2006, 07:42:00 AM »

media can only be burned at its rated speed or slower,
unless the firmware allows higher burning speeds ,

most dual layer media is still 2.4x , that means , you cant burn it any faster unless you edit the burn strategies yourself in the firmware , or there is a firmware that already has hax for some media

i burn the verbatims @ 8x and they work same way as the ones burned @ 2.4x

id like to try burning it @ 12x but the pioneer 111d firmware wont let me

with a good burner and a right pot adjustment you dont need to use any tricks, it just works ,

sometimes you dont even need to do a pot tweak

@GM360

Yes those disk work very well with the Hitachi, I even burn them at 8X but you have to modify your firmware to use the verbatim write strategy because stock is set at 2.4x

I already used up a 25 pack spindle no problems at all.

pioneer 111d
verbatim 2,4x at max.speed
clonecd 5.2.9.1

tongue.gif Pioneer 111D
Hitachi 47DJ
Verbatim 2.4x

The past nine backups I've burned on Verbatims and have had no problems. It would have been ten but it was a bad image file. All boot perfect like originals.  tongue.gif

Both the hacked and stock firmware on the Pioneer 111D will burn 2.4x rated Verbatim D/L DVD+R at 8x with no problems.

Is burning at 2.4X really necessary?

I have burned Verbatim (MKM media ID) DVD+R DL at 4X on a Pioneer DVR-111D with TDB fw 1.23 without issues.

I read one * post where the PI/PO errors of Verbatim DL burned at 4X were about the same and the test quality score was 95.

Are most of you still burning at 2.4X?

*  I wish there was more information confirming this...

burning slower makes less errors.

you are gambling if you burn any speed higher with DLs

I burned 5 or 6 at 2.4x, and then for shits and giggles switched clone CD to max on my 111d with TDB firmware. I've never had a single issue with any of my burns, except for one disc that had some greasy fingerprints on them (thanks popeyes). That said, My PGR3 backup seems to load alot slower than the original, My original disc is acctually at a friends so I can't do a exact time test, but I plan to use a stopwatch and video tape it if you guys are interested?

Yeah, that is the general consensus on cdfreaks.  Provided you are using a decent burner with quality media it really doesn't make much difference what speed you burn at.  For some discs it has actually proven to make PI/PO scans WORSE to burn them at slower than the rated speed.  However, Verbatim (MKM/MCC) are designed to be burned well at just about any speed.  I have a Lite-On on the way and will post some scans of my 6x and 8x burns on the D/L Verbatim when I get it.

Thanks for the feedback jesterace!

I believe my discs burned at 4X may even load faster than the ones
burned at 2.4X. I'll run some tests tomorrow.

I am looking forward to seeing your scans, thanks!
