Whats the best software to allow dvd playback with the IR remote on the xbox?

I have set my xbox up to use the M$ one, but would prefer sommat like mediacentre.

The only with with MC is when it plays a dvd it goes str8 into the first vob, it doesnt play the menu so i cannot select a chapter etc.

dvd playback is one of many things that still need to be worked out with xbmc.  many of my dvd's won't play at all, as far as I know the ms dash is the only thing that needs the dongle. I use dvd regionx which does not need the dongle and it works very well. it can be launched from xbmc or any other dash.

You are basically concurring with my statement then.

I may have not have expressed myself well though, I wish to use the dongle.

I have two xboxes and purchases remotes for both.

I only use my xbox for media play back, it's not a games machine at all.

If only DVDX had some way to center the image on my Widescreen RPTV... the dashboard player centers it perfectly, and XBMC I can define the dimension...  but in DVDX, I'm forced to zoom a bit then move it around to center it.

I had a question about playing DVD's with the original MS dash. Does it eliminate macrovision ? I have some kids movies for my daugter that I want to transfer to VHS tapes, so I was wondering if I would have to worry about the macrovision ?

If it doesn't eliminate macrovision, is there a patch or something ?

Is the M$ dash multi region.

I have a PAL Xbox (UK) and wondered what region it is, or does the modchip make it region free?

i can't test it as I shagged the bios so i am getting it reprogrammed

I'm also looking for solution to playback other region dvds with the dongle. I read somewhere that even if the box is region free, the dongle is not.
