Unrecognized Disc Error
« on: July 04, 2006, 05:36:00 PM »

Hello,

I have searched and done a lot of reading, but I've become stuck and would appreciate any help.

I have followed geebees tutorial exactly. Using a Pioneer 109 (original firmware) to rip Condemned
with Wxripper. Each step has worked perfectly, I have combined my Iso and SS correctly, and burned the .DVD file on 2.4x in CloneCD (on Verbatim). I did not change bitsetting as I have read everywhere that it is not necessary with this drive. My xbox is a samsung drive with xtreme firmware.

From what i have read, I am using a good/successful combination of hardware and media.

Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks.

I don't care which Sammy you have, you ALWAYS change the booktype as it will only help out your compatibility.  The Pioneer 109 (with at least V1.40 firmware) will automatically set the booktype to DVD-ROM on D/L DVD+R discs.  You are definitely using the right discs though as the Verbatim are the best of what D/L has to offer.  Which version of the firmware does your drive have?  Honestly the 109 was a POS drive prior to the V1.40 firmware.  *EDIT* Just noticed you were making a 360 backup and this would be better placed in one of the 360 forums.

Sorry didn't notice this was for xbox only, mods feel free to move.

In response to your question, I have had the drive for a while and never updated firmware. So its possible that the firmware is older then 1.40.

I will give this a try first, or if anyone else has any others suggestions please let me know.

thanks.

How can I get a mod to move this thread to where I might get a better response?

> xbox360 backup question.

Thanks

No Good. I checked my firmware version and it was 1.40.  So I updated it to the latest, 1.58.
Burnt again using Clone CD but still the same problem, Unrecognized Disc!!!

why is it that everyone else has success with this exact combo???

I'm not prepared to give up yet, but i need some more suggestions. its much appreciated.

Yes. I'm using ss merger 1.6, and its all green when combining my files. It would be good if I just got some kind of error, at least then I would have a clue of whats wrong!!

do originals work.. how did you flash your drive...

if you injected the DVD key with kdx, did you patch xtreme.bin first?

Yes originals work. I paid someone to flash the xbox for me (before i knew anything about it), so i can't be sure of what procedure they used.

I have tried other backups and they work fine.

not sure. i only borrowed them to try, I didn't create them myself. Are you thinking that perhaps my firmware has been upgraded differently/incorrectly?

I have just noticed that the .dvd file i am trying to burn is only 33bytes in size??!!  Why then when i burn the file does it takes so long. My .iso file is 7.05gb, so i would of thought that the .dvd file be similar.
can anyone confirm this for me?

i will try and merge the .iso and .bin again, and see what size .dvd file it gives me.

does anyone know why it would create such a small file?

**update** i have just been given a 'red' display in SS merge, yet last time it came up 'green'.
i dunno whats going on.

the .dvd file only contains layer break information and the name of the iso to burn (.000). indeed that's pretty small  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  all the game data is contained in the other large file (6 ~ 7 gig). nothing's wrong about that.

many factors can make your rip fail so it's hard to say. there is one thing i can say though, it is not a media/burner problem. Unrecognized Disc Error is only for bad rips (wrong ss, bad merging...).
my bet is that you didnt merge properly the ss.bin and the iso. or maybe the iso is just corrupt. my advice, try again and compare your results.

SUCCESS!!

i tried to copy my fifa world cup instead, and it had no problems. I think it had something to do with the SS file not matching, although i'm sure it was green the first time i tried  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

Well it must have been a one off success. tried top spin 2, but getting unrecognized disc error again.
I made sure the SS matched, and it was all green to go.

But doesn't work. why why why (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

just realised i picked up -R by mistake (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif) . could this be why?  what difference would -R make??
