A Couple Of Questions
« on: April 10, 2004, 03:22:00 PM »

1. Can XBMC be booted from a CDR/CDRW?

This is the way I've always used XBMP, and today I decided to start using XBMC. Extracted the latest version, added the .rm codecs, burnt it to a CDR and it started up fine, but had issues when I switched to a separate CDR with an .avi file on it. The skin disappeared when I clicked on My Videos, leaving a black background. It also wouldn't start the avi file.

So it seemed to need access to the XBMC files at all times. Is booting from a CD not supported or did I do something wrong?

2. Can XBMC be used to launch DVD films?

I've read that it can be used to start the core film of a retail DVD. If so, how do I do this?

Thanks in advance for your help.  <

Yes it will run off a CD or DVD. However you won't be able to play any media if you switch the disc. The skin should remain on screen regardless - did your CD have textures.xpr in the skin's media directory?

Starting a DVD - select "play DVD" from the side menu in my videos. It will play the default title.

So I'm pretty much screwed unless I burn XBMC onto every media disc I burn?

Actually no, it didn't. Is there anything else I should add in that didn't come with it?

Does this work under the same 'Disc switching not allowed' principal as above - If take the XBMC disc out, put a DVD in and hit 'Play DVD', it won't run?  <
