Hmm, did you get any errors at all when backing up the game. I mean errors such as CRC errors cause you may be missing part of the game.

Did you try changing the booktype using a program such as Nero, DVDinfopro?

If all else fails, then I think you need to adjust your pot on your xbox 360 disc drive. There's a guide on how to adjust Samsung pot for 360 on the hacking general forum i beleive.

  I upgraded the firmware last night and tried burning at 1x.  

  Seems to be working better (at least it doesn't hang at the load screen)

  I decided to buy a NEC ND-3550a from new-egg and ditch my Sony... hopefully it makes a difference

  I found the POT adjustment interesting but a bit much,  maybe if a new burner doesn't work I will try it.

should get the pioneer 111d, as that is having the most success from what ive read.

  I have seen also that the Pioneer 111d Has had some success.  

  I see also that there are many NEC burners out there that have had some success.  The 3550a has had some great results and its amazing some of the firmware options that are out there for the unit.

   If all else fails, I will ship it back to newegg.....
