Playing Xvid And Divx With Xbmc
« on: April 09, 2004, 05:24:00 PM »

Does anyone know if i just burn a xVid or Divx avi file to a CDR and drop it into my xbox, that XBMC will be able to read the cd and play the file? Or do i have to burn all these files on CD-RW's.

Thanks

My Xbox using XBMC plays Divx and Xvid just fine off CD-R.It will probably depend more on your DVD Player in your Xbox,I have a Samsung in mine and it plays everything Great.I have had a Thompson in it before and that thing was pickier than hell.I also used a Phillips which is okay, but I would say for sure that the Samsung works the best.Hope it helps :D   <

Like the above poster said, it all depends on the drive. I was blessed enough to get a samsung and my entire collection runs flawlessly, haven't had one that can't be read yet, including CDRs burnt with jouliet enabled and not in disc-at-once mode.

Unless you've got a sammy it's luck of the draw, and the odds are agaisnt you.  <

My Samsung drive came from another Xbox I was moddinig for someone. They would never have used it for CD-r or anything like that ,only straight up Xbox DVD to Xbox transfer. As far as what kind you have, without knowing 100% youre going to have to rip open the box and Take a peak.I have noticed that alot of the new Xbox"s come with a Samsung DVD drive,So if your carefull you could always go to wallmart buy a New Xbox,Carefully pull back the sticker corner nearest the screw hole and then just swap the Samsung Dvd drive from that one.Ive returned a couple to them with no hassle because of bad flashes with the winbond chip.Never been turned down yet.   <
