Went out and bought one of these Pioneer 111 Drives.

Burnt backups on Bulkpaq and Ridisc media, works great, no tricks needed, does take a little bit longer for it to "think" about it but once it does that, games run perfectly.

Today I switched over to the HD components connections on my 360, and for some reason it changed the way some games load, Games that are standard NTSC boot just fine the first time, but games that are PAL Region free require the HDTV switch trick to load, not sure why but figured I would throw in this little update, Doesn't matter if the DISC is Verbatium or the Ritecs I have both require the HDTV trick. Anyway have fun and remeber to check http://en.wikipedia....region_encoding to see if your backup of a PAL can be played on your American NTSC box and for those with newsgroup access find the alt.binaries xbox360 forum for backup images since we can't SS ours like the samsungs can.

Did a second Hitachi 360 mod today, boy Geebee's latest instructions definately made a second time extremely easy took 45mins to do the entire mod and get the box back up and running and playing backups.

DVD Media and ID: Verbatim 2.4x MKM 001
DVD Burner: Memorex Pioneer 111D
DVD Burner Firmware: Dangerous Bros. 1.23
Burning Software: CloneCD 5.2.8.1 at 2.4x
Flashed With: C4E v1.1 (successful)
Working?: Only with softboot tricks, what am I doing wrong to get this to work from cold boot and naturally like the other people with my setup?

Guys,

Just to give you an update....

I have 2 NEC burners at home, 1 is an NEC3551 and the other is a NEC4571.

When I first flashed the Hitachi 47DJ drive in my XBOX360 I received all the dreaded error messages indicating a failed flash on the 3rd and 4th flash command. I repeated the process until I had no errors. (I'm using v1.0 of the firmware)

The discs I have been using all along for backups have been the Verbatim 8x (MKM 03).

ALL of the Verbs burnt on the NEC drives above have failed and display the "clean disc" message on the 360. No tricks work in booting these discs.

Now, I have a Lite-On SOHW-1673S drive (using latest stock firmware) in work and burnt one of the backups using this burner and hey presto! it worked perfectly without using any tricks first time, and every time! I can even put the disc in the drive when the XBOX360 is at the  dashboard and it still boots perfectly.

I am now convinced that it is the drives - another mate has a couple of Sony and Philips drives and none of these work either.

Just thought Id give an update on progress! Looks like the Lite-On SOHW-1673s can also be added to the list of working DVD Writers!

UPDATE: It seems like now I have around a 20% success rate when trying to boot the game from a cold start. Should I try changed my media, burn at a slower speed, the max speed, or what to try and get this to 100% rate since I have the proper burner and firmware to do this...

I have a feeling it may be the v1.1 firmware, should i try going back to 1.0 and test it out?

The reason I think it is the firmware is because my backups have a chance of booting up from a cold start and 100% chance with softboot tricks. If it was a media or burner issue, then from a cold boot it would either boot all the time or none of the time. And since they changed the media detection code in v1.1, i'm thinking if I try out the old firmware I will either get worse results or better so I am gonna give it a shot and tell ya the results.

wow! funny how people go off subject. this is a media thread, everything else has been answered or is in other threads.

I have used

Fugifilm dvd+r dl
Memorex dvd+r dl
Verbatim dvd+r dl

All work great for movies and games..

No, this is not just a media thread anymore. If you had read the 25 pages like I did you would have noticed that people are trying to find out the perfect combination of media AND burner here.

Recorder: Pioneer DVR-710 (or 111D)
Firmware: 1.06
Media: Verbatim DVD+R DL 8X
Clone CD: v.5.2.8.1
Game: Table Tennis, LOTR2
Working? ONLY with HD reset method

Was using Plextor 716A - did not work with any media (TDK,Fuji,Verbatim)...

Also had no luck with FujiFilm or TDK DVD+R DLs on the Pioneer.

Burned all discs at 2-2.4x to be safe....

I wish there was a way arounf the HD crap....

OK so This FW update did the trick for me. I was recently using 1.1 and I could not get any backups to work whatsoever. I restored back to my original using my 47d folder and then reflashed using this 1.2 UPDATE. I then tried out all 8 dvd backups I have made over the last week and 2 WORKED! So only coastered 6 DVD's. Not bad!

My specs are:

Hitachi 47d
ModeB using SLAX
Restored Original Firmware
Flashed with GaryOPA 1.2 version

LiteOn 1693S DVDRW Drive
Verbatim 2.4x DL media
Burned @ 2.4x

The way that it boots is using the eject trick after it shows open tray! That trick is the best trick ever!
Thanks alot GaryOPA & Birdy! You guys rock. But thanks originally to Commodore4Eva and The specialist!

I have successfully backed up my personal copies of PD0 and Kameo with a complete Success rate!

Ripped them myself using Gladiator and WXripper method. Injected SS with SSMerger1.6 and Voila.

Successful

Thanks again!

OK. After much trying and failing, I have gotten backups to boot.

I have the Hitachi 47dj drive.

What did NOT work:

Anything with v1.1 extreme firmware.
Any burns made on NEC 3420a - burned at any speed - with clonecd, deepburner, dvd decryptor or nero - with any revision of the firmware which was listed on this forum. I tried both types of media (MKM and whatever the other one is, the MKM being Verbatim)

Error message received: Disc unreadable.

What DID work:

Xbox 360 Drive Firmware: Version 1.2rc1 GaryOPA firmware for Hitachi 47d.
Burner: Pioneer 111D with 1.23 firmware @2-2.4 burning speed
Burner: Pioneer 111D with 1.23 TDB firmware @ 2-2.4 burning speed
Burning software: CloneCD version 5.2.8.1 (haven't tested any others since this worked the 1st time)
Media: Verbatim

I now get the "Tray Open" error, but a soft reset will boot the backups 100% of the time.

Hope this helps anybody who is struggling to get this to work.
