Heres what i stumbled on to get troublesome games to load

1. With 360 off pop the HDD out so it just rests on top
2. Power up 360 and insert troublesome game disc that you know work once before
3. Leave game to spin up a few seconds then pop back in HDD this will make 360 do a soft reset and game loads

This worked for me tried on 2 different media Datawrite Titanium and Traxdata DVD+R DL

Can someone else try it and post results please

doesnt work for me, but it did change the statue of the disc from "Open Tray" to disc read error.

Firmware: Hitachi 47DJ v1.1
DVD+DL Brand or ID: Verbatim (MKM) and FujiFilm (Ritek)
DVD Recorder: Philips (BenQ) DVDRW 8601
DVD Recorder Firmware: Latest, I can't quite remember
Recorded Speed and Software: 2.4x CloneCD 5.2.8.1
Working: No

I want to go out and purchase a Pioneer 111D as everyone says it works perfectly with Verbatims. I need a new DVD Burner anyways.

DVD Burner: Lite-On SHW-160P6  With latest retail firmware
Dvd Media : Verbatim 2.4 certified
Burnt at : 2.4x
Soft: CloneCD 5.2.9.1
Working : YES

OH HAPPY DAY wink.gif
Seems Lite-On and Pioneer are the way to go wink.gif
Tried 3 different NEC burners and all failed with same verbatim media, but with a 40$ lite-on it worked just fine wink.gif

Lite-On SOHW-832S
Verbatim: Yes Samsung No Hitachi
FujiFilm: Yes Samsung No Hitachi

Hopefully we can stop grinding our teeth and find a solution.

So, any explanation as to what the hard drive trick actually does? The drive is obviously still having trouble with the disc, as it has to chew on it a while before it finally loads.

That disc now boots every time from a cold start (with the hdd either in or out). I reburnt my other backup and it also works from a cold start - without first needing the hdd trick. Neither will boot from the dash though.

Guys, all your discs are fine. Do not throw them away. This is a problem in commodore4eva's firmware, and it's not allowing your discs to play. You will find that if you use the same media burning a movie, music, pictures or whatever.. that it will work. When you use that same media to burn a game, it won't. So it is reading your discs just not the games that you burn on the disc. Once again, it's a problem with his firmware reading the security sector on the disc.

As i said before i think adding the Hd and forcing the soft reset gives the 360 extra time needed to read the disc.
I was having problems booting from cold start or dashboard

If that was the case, you would need the hdd trick to boot it every time. I only had to do it once to get a previously non-working disc to boot every time from a cold start.

its confusing since if it was a firmware problem it would work for nobody though we have confirmation that for some with pioneer and Liteon drives it works fine.....

It has to be the firmware problem. I using pioneer 111d with the latest firmware, verbatim for the media burnt at 2x no go it brings me to the dash with (open tray) prompt. I even try xbox1 backup it gives me error so it have to be the firmware bug
