Hitachi Lg Media Compatability Thread
« Reply #150 on: June 17, 2006, 08:52:00 AM »

I'm thinking the Hitachi reads the discs a lot faster than the Samsung, and I believe DVD-R/DVD+R media usually takes a little longer to load than standard DVDs, so the drive expects the SS too soon, which is why the HDD/AV trick works, since the drive gets to read the SS before it gives up. My other reason for thinking this is because if you get your backup to load via either method (HDD/AV), play the game, then go back to the dashboard, if you choose "Play Game" again, it will load immediately and play just fine again. It must be something within the drive itself as to how you go about booting games sometimes, but that doesn't really explain why only certain burners are working properly.

Seeing as the 'CrossWire' method effectively initialises the read routine.. (I could be wrong).. Has anyone tried inserting a disc, using the CrossWire method, and then seeing if their disc is loaded up? As I recall, a key characteristic about this method is the DVD drive spins up to a significantly faster speed.. Could help.. I've just closed my Xbox up though..

However, I could be seriously wrong about this.. It's pretty much me just thinking off the top of my head.

Oh.. And here's my results so far..

DVD+DL brand or ID: Imation
DVD recorder: LG GSA-4163b
DVD recorder firmware: A106
Recorded speed and soft: 2.4x Clonecd 5.2.9.1
Working: No
Game: Fifa World Cup 2006

I still believe the problem is the SS or a bad rip. I've built 9 games with isobuilder from different groups dates from 12-05 to 4-06 ( Far Cry and Condemned being the last ) and the are unrecognized disk but they installed the update? None of the isobuilder builds worked all were unrecognized. The new ones pre patched by many different groups work perfect with HD or AV trick. I conclude it's a problem with the built rip or SS rip and not completely the Firmware ( still bugs in the firmware just not as bad as everyone makes it seem ).

OMG I went in and adjusted my POT with a finger nail filer and didnt think I did anything cause I didnt have the right tools but now all my games time out at dash but I can hear they are still spining so I induce a soft reset and boom they all work now. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Now just to wait for a new FW that will fix this. See, my biggest fear is that I wasnt patching them right and was wasting DL disc but I was patching them right Kick ASS

Memorex discs stop working within a couple months of being burned. Probably not all the time, but pretty often. Just to add to the list, here's my working backups so far:

Pioneer DVR-111D
Firmware TDB 1.19
Vertatim DVD+R DL 2.4x (burned at 2.4x)
Hitachi C4E 1.1 FW
Far Cry Instincts Predator
Quake 4
Condemned
Project Gotham Racing

All work absolutley perfectly using soft reset.

I ran out of verbatims today so i went to walmart cuz it was the only place open. I bought a 3 pack of the hp dvdr dl discs and they autoboot in my hitachi. I have a pioneer 111d and db 1.23 firmware. Hitachi 47dj drive with 1.0 firmware. Give these a try for anyone who cant get verbatims to autoboot.

burner lite on SHW 160P6S stock firnware (also from newegg)
hitachi 47dj flashed 1.1
2 games both boot fine, ssmerger gave red on both.

I have the same DVD burner (from Newegg) and pretty much the same media (RiDATA (Ritek D01).  I just burned Call of Duty 2 but I will have to wait until I give it to my friend to try it out.  He has the Hitachi, I got lucky and got the Samsung.
