yea sounds like it automatically sets the booktype correctly. If you want to check it, burn a +r disc, and then view the media info in dvdinfopro. It should say that the "media type" is +r, but the "book type" is dvd-rom

Yep, it does. Thanks.

I ended up flashing my HP drive to an LG one as this definately supports booktype in DVDinfoPro - although there is no option for DVD+R DL just +R (which is set as DVD-ROM).

I guess it was right all along.

Anyway, waiting for my DVD+R DLs to come and try out my first ever burn. unsure.gif

Please search & read... the 111D should set the book type automatically if you have the right firmware on it.

I updated my firmware of my pioneer 111d. But dvdinfo pro keeps saying pioneers don 't support bitsetting.
My sister has a lite-on dl writer, can I use that one to make my backups. And will it work with on my 360 with a hitachi drive?

It will bitset automatically, there is no reason to try to do it manually.

Hi,

just wanted to say thanks Vince for this tool. I managed to sucessfully backup up one of my games on the first attempt with this tool. Also thanks to everyone on the forum for the excellent in depth tutorials, a real credit.

FYI this was my process and experiences:

Hitachi Drive, extracted SS.BIN using getss and with xbox drive connected to PC.  Was unable to read game partition in DVDinfo with xbox drive so tried to use wxripper/pc dvd which failed with CRC errors. PC dvd drive is a NEC 3520A. Upgraded firmware to Liggy's 3.07 from http://liggydee.cdfr....com/page/3520/. Was then able to use wxripper to extract the game with no errors whatsoever. Used ssmerger 1.6 to combine ss.bin and game partion into an .iso. Then used imgburn setting DVD +R booktype to DVD-rom and burnt as per your guide. Worked first time. I hope this is of some help to someone but sorry to deviate the thread. As i said all credit to ya for this!

Cheers all
Paul.

Desperately need some help here please!

BURNER: NEC 4551A [fw 1.08]
360 Drive: HITACHI 47D [Fw OPA 2.1 5in 1]
MEDIA: Verbatim

I have been getting 100% DDE [DIRTY DISK ERROR] and its getting me down.
I have used both imgburn 2.0 and clonecd 2.5.9.1 and even checked that each image passes the stealth check on older images.
Whats annoying is that people with NEC4551A's confirm they work on the Hitachi with verbs.

I have been told its not necessary to set booktype but after 3-4 coasters I did set it to 'media type: dvd+r dl'
and 'book-type: DVD-ROM'.
But after all that I still get 100% coasters.

The drive works perfectly for all other types of burning including:

DVD-R
DVD+R
DVD+R DL
PS2
Xbox

And I rarely ever get a coaster, but it seems I am having real trouble with this!

I DO know that backups work with my fw as I have my retail games backed up and burnt on a friends burner, along with my originals which all work fine.

Please advise!

Many thanks in advance

Have you tried Liggys bitsetting firmware on the NEC? http://liggydee.cdfr....com/page/4550/

I would try it, you can easy go back to your original firmware, its posted there anywhere. All I can say is My NEC did not work until i upgraded, Liggys was the first i tried based on seeing someone else had done it on here.  I wouldnt waste anymore disks on your current firmware and failing that change it possibly a pioneer.

Thanks

update: 3/10/2006

ok, its the NEC 4551A, as soon as I installed a 111D I had no problems with the HITACHI 47D and OPA 2.1.
