Ripping With Wxripper
« on: May 25, 2006, 09:48:00 AM »

I'm using an NEC 3500 DVD-RW drive to rip DOA4 using WxRipper.

Here is the method I followed:

1). Insert large DVD movie (Star Wars Episode 3)
2). Hit stop
3). Use emergency eject (paperclip into eject hole, Sniperkilla suggested this in some tutorial)
4). Put DOA4 into the drive.
5). Hit start
6). Get Magic number
7). Dump iso

I hear the drive moving but it clicks twice every 5 seconds as if it can't read the disc.  WxRipper says not responding and the iso is at 0KB.  Is this normal?  For those of you who were able to rip successfully using WxRipper, does the iso file size change as it is ripping?  Thanks for an pointers you guys might have.

Maybe your drive has problems with the emergency eject, could you just take your drive apart?

It's the only DVD burner I have at the moment so I don't want to take it apart.  I'll just go buy a DVDROM drive and try it again.  So some drives work with the emergency eject while others don't?  Thanks for the suggestion.

Emergency eject has been responsible for a lot of false problems with iso extraction while also causing damage to DVD drives.  Just take your drive apart so you can get at it reliably, otherwise you will continue to have problems right up until your drive dies on you.

Thanks for the heads up!  I'm going to go buy a dvd-rom drive from Fry's this weekend and try it out without the emergency eject.

I figured out a secret to emergency eject. When you are closing the drive use some force, not to much, a reasonable amount. If done quick enough you should hear a click (you may not). Now there are to ways of telling if it worked. 1 Test it with wxripper or 2. press eject (just a test you will have to do it all again i know) if the disk tray comes out it worked and you know your doing it right.
