For those of you familiar with the following screen:

IPB Image

Then the following tutorial is for you!

TUTORIAL: DVD Decrypter Burning
  1. Download DVD Decrypter
  2. Run DVD Decrypter and open up your IMAGE.DVD file in Notepad so you get the following screen:
  3. In DVD Decrypter, using the menu list at the top, go to Tools then select Settings
    IPB Image
  4. Go to the ISO Write Mode tab. On the right hand side you will see a section called Options. In there is a Layer Break category with two radio buttons. Select the second radio button, User Specified. Now, in the Sectors in L0 textbox enter the value that is located in the IMAGE.DVD file after the "LayerBreak=" text. Hit OK. [Because all 360 games need the layer break at the same location, you should only have to set this option once!]
    IPB Image
  5. In the IMAGE.DVD file, delete the LayerBreak text so you are only left with the IMAGE.000 filename. Save the file as IMAGE_DVDDECRYPTER.DVD or whatever you choose and close Notepad.
    IPB Image
  6. In DVD Decrypter, select Write Mode (just hit W and it will go into Write Mode). Then open (File->Browse or click the little Browse icon underneath the Source section of the Write Dialog.) your IMAGE_DVDDECRYPTER.DVD file. [NOTE: If you get a "Invalid or unsupported image file format!" error when you load this file, it means your backup was made incorrectly!]
  7. Hit the Burn button and there you go!
    IPB Image

  8. Optional: If you are going to use DVD Decrypter to burn anything OTHER than 360 backups, then go back to Tools -> Settings and remember to change the Layer Break option on the ISO Write Mode tab BACK to Calculate Optimal.

I tried using CloneCD v5.2.8.1 (the latest version) on two separate DVD burner drives [1 BENQ, 1 SONY]. Both gave the same error, refusing to buy a different drive I thought I'd use a more versatile program like DVD Decrypter. Plus, DVD Decrypter is free and CloneCD is not.

 unsure.gif ->  happy.gif  -> biggrin.gif  -> laugh.gif

Well, the reason I didn't take the .dvd out and just rename was because I hadn't tested that as sucessfully working. But theoretically there should be nothing wrong with doing that as the .dvd file just tells the program what file to load. So really, I don't think it would be a big deal, I'll modify the tutorial after I test it working (should work, but you never know, lol).

If the backup was made using wxripper then you will need to use the SS Merger tool to add the ss.bin correctly. Otherwise, you can follow the details from a TUTORIAL that details the entire process of hacking the 360 drive. For the backup portion of it go to Page 9 and start reading sections: Backing Up Games (Isobuster Method) through section Combining the Image & SS Files (Isobuster Method) (including that last section). Then you can follow the steps in this thread to burn the image, or you can use the PDF tutorial already linked to burn using CloneCD.

can anyone confirm that the dvd decrypter method works correctly...

I've insert an ss.bin into a iso-file.

Dvd decrypter detects this as "good" and i could burn the DVD.

But when I insert the DVD in my xbox360 it only says Reading on the bottom of the screen. I doesn't change to an black screen or giving the 'unreadable disc' error.
