Xm Satellate Radio On Xbox
« on: April 07, 2004, 12:04:00 PM »

Hey I was wondering if there is anyone who is willing to develop a plugin to allow the XM PCR Unit to be controlled by XBOX Media Center.

http://www.xmradio.com/xmpcr/community.jsp That is some of the sites of people who developed software and drivers for different OS's. It runs on the PC in Windows via a USB Port and the driver it uses is a USB to Serial Port Driver with is available here http://www.ftdichip.com/FTWinDriver.htm

Dunno if it is possible just thought I would ask.

Page to the Unit Itself: http://www.xmradio.com/xmpcr/

As a new Owner of an Xbox and XM radio I agree, I'd buy the PCR in a second if it would work through my XBOX. Guess you'd have to get an extra USB cable and use it though a controller port, much like how you can use a controller on a PC, but in reverse. Software would seem to be the only issue as all other info needed comes from the XMPCR itself.

I agree.  One popular mod to the XMPCR is the addition of an optical output.  There appear to be at least a couple of ways to drive the XMPCR with the xbox.

1. Have the the XMPCR connected to a PC with the XMPCR optical output connected to an optical input on the pc.  The PC controls the XMPCR via USB.  TCP to USB software in the PC allows the xbox to control the XMPCR.  Streaming software in the PC allows the xbox to get to the audio stream.

2. Have the XMPCR connected to the xbox via USB.  Software in the xbox is used for control of the XMPCR, while the XMPCR optical audio is directly connected to a home theater receiver optical input.

I'd be willing to guess that this won't happen unless someone would donate one of these units to someone on the XBMC team, and even then, it probably wouldn't be a huge priority. XM is a niche market.  <
