Add Shielding/ferrites To A 360 Vga Cable?
« on: October 30, 2009, 12:07:00 PM »

Hey guys, I've been searching over the net to see if this is possible (probably not).  I bought a third-party 360 VGA cable from Monoprice.com, thinking they had higher quality cables than the other places.  Turns out that they don't and my cable has ghosting issues with my monitor.  I know the problem is due to poor shielding, what I wanted to know is if I can modify the cable to add additional shielding to prevent the ghosting.  I don't know enough about cables to do it, what do you guys think?  Is this possible?  Wrap some foil around the cable?

I never understood how ferrites (the bulky thing at the end of a VGA cable to protect against interference) are installed on a VGA cable.  Any info would help!

I know that the official VGA cable doesn't have this problem, but I would like a cheap alternative to that instead of paying $40.  I plan to buy 3-4 VGA cables so it'll add up.

you can add ferrites to any cable , just with some zipties and tape .
But if that does not work for you call monoprice and just tell them the cable is showing signs of ghosting , I'm sure they will make you happy.
