Failed Headset Splice
« on: July 25, 2009, 08:13:00 AM »

There are two styles of the standard xbox headset. One has the mute/volume control with the jack that's right up against the controller (old version), the other has it placed on the center of the cord (new version).

Well, I broke my old version headset and had a new one laying around. Although, having the mute/volume control on the cord drove me freaking nuts, so I attempted to remove the cord from the new headset, then splice the old wire/control into it.

There are four wires, and I matched them all correctly. The only oddity is that in the new version one wire is green, while in the old it is black with a plastic casing. The other three are identical. I matched them all perfectly and there is no contact between the four wires where I spliced them. But the whole thing is dead, and I can't figure out why...
