You probably have the cable set to HD on an SDTV.

 What kind of TV do you have?
Is it an LCD/CRT/Plasma/DLP?  
Is it an HDTV/SDTV?
What kind of cable are you using?
Are the right jacks plugged into the right ports on your TV?
Is the HDTV/SDTV on your (assumed) component/composite switcher cable set to SDTV?

thanks for your help. just wanted to let you all know that it was the sd/hd settings.

my cousin just brought over his Elite 360.. he said it had sound but no video.. i plugged it into my projector with my cables, and the video was scrambled and messed up.. the projector said that the source resolution was 1280x278.. any suggestions?? my xbox worked no problems with the same cables and on the same projector..
