Vga Help
« on: January 25, 2009, 05:04:00 AM »

hey i need some help with running my xbox and pc on the same monitor with only one input, VGA

i don't have a KVM and really don't want to buy one as im very cheap tongue.gif

i do have advanced soldering skills and good soldering equipment

i have ALOT of VGA cables and recepticles

i have some various switches n things

i was thinking that it would be possible to make a vga "switch" with only a few wires needing to be disconnected as alot of pins on VGA are N.C.

here is a VGA pinout

1 Red
2 Green
3 Blue
4 No Connect
5 Ground
6 Ground
7 Ground
8 Ground
9 No Connect
10 Ground
11 No Connect
12 DDC DAT
13 Horizontal Synchronization
14 Vertical Synchronization
15 DDC Clock

as far as i know the following could be left connected at all times or not connected at all

4 No Connect
5 Ground
6 Ground
7 Ground
8 Ground
9 No Connect
10 Ground
11 No Connect

and the following switched

1 Red
2 Green
3 Blue
12 DDC DAT
13 Horizontal Synchronization
14 Vertical Synchronization
15 DDC Clock

which is still 7 switches

but what im wondering is if it would be possible to connect evrything and switch between the ground?
thats only one switch

or possibly get a few relays and use those to switch all wires?

i would like to make this as simple as possible and not spend alot of money so any ideas would help me out
