No Picture & Sound Xbox 360

Have been searching everywhere for a solution to this problem since the last 4 days but in vain. have bought a new xbox 360. unpacked the whole box. it has come along with a standard av cable as given in (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xboxstandardavcable/). there is no switch at the end of the console cable for HD/standard TV. both the TV & XBOX are off. Took the console cable and put it in the respective color code (RYB) into the TV. The other end is plugged into xbox 360. after that started the TV and put it in video mode. started the xbox. it has got started with all the green lights but there is no picture nor sound. Then I take the RB cables and connect it to the AUX (there is no provision to connect the yellow cable in the DVD AUX) in the DVD player and connect the DVD Player to the TV. now am able to get the sound but no display, obviously because there is no yellow port for the video. But then if I again connect it to the TV, in the same way the DVD player is connected, it does not work. pls help!

thats not very clear.... what it sounds like is a tv setting somewhere, maybe there is another video channel?

The link you posted is for a regular xbox cable not 360.
Most dvd players have s-video, component or composite out and as fars as inputs would only be for sound.
(rca red and white)

Try connecting the xbox to the tv directly, unplug the dvd player cables from the tv.
Also how many cables do you have for the dvd player?

Let me know if this makes sence.

Well if you have "RYB" hooked up thats why.  You either need.  The Yellow video cable and the red and white audio cable(composite), or  The red, blue and green video cable along with the red and white audio.  Also make sure that your tv is on the right input.  You may have it on the wrong video.  You can also do hdmi and optical if you want.  Or different combos.
