I Had No Video Using Component...

The resolution was set to 1080p because it was at my friends and he has an HDMI cable. Apparently consoles with HDMI ports can be set to 1080p without being connected to HDMI, but consoles without HDMI ports can never be set to 1080p (It's always grayed out)

So I went through a lot of testing and cable switching when the answer was a setting issue. I just wanted to post this, because I was about to post about how it doesn't work, but I found my answer and I hope someone else reads it and kicks there system back into HD land with ease.

Yes, I know it doesn't always have to do with the settings!  tongue.gif  jester.gif

Just to recap I had audio, but no video for component, and composite worked and component cables with the AV cord set to TV worked.
Cheers XS
(You could add this to the sticky/announcement in anyway you want, it would have saved me some time if I saw this)

Wrong.

You can select 1080p when you are using a VGA cable. It's not possible to transmit 1080p with component.

Wrong (very wrong), a lot of TVs can display 1080p over component, for instance, mine can. Component and VGA are almost exactly the same thing, to begin with. For Rickets - you probably have a problem with your scaler. You can reset the video settings (put it back in HDTV mode on the cable) by holding R trigger and Y as the system boots (make sure your controller turns on the system if it's wireless), if it works after this, then you can go back and set it to 480p, 720p.

Yes it is, and it has been since the first fall update. Also, the actual image being sent over component and VGA is the same thing, the only difference is VGA also sends the horizontal and vertical sync and refresh rate, and component has less bandwidth, so the video is compressed by the system, and uncompressed by the TV. They're a lot more similar than they are different. The 360 uses the same pins for component and VGA, so I don't know if they even take advantage of the larger bandwidth that VGA generally provides.

Here's a link to Microsoft telling us that the 360 can do 1080p over component.
