Sound And No Video Linked With 0020 Error
« on: July 30, 2008, 06:56:00 PM »

I got the no video with dots moving across the screen with audio.

I just heat gunned it and cooled it afterwards with an external fan and heat sinks on the memory.

Works good now.

Thanks for the fast reply  biggrin.gif

Well then i guess i should use the heat gun method and add some cooling. I will update  when i get it done.

Again thanks.

I failed to mention that I also tried the xclamp first. You might try backing out the screws a little and see if that helps. It seemed to work a little but the heat gun worked and seems more stable for now. I did 1min warm up and then 2min on high heat in circle motions. I would take little steps on the amount of time you use the heat on the board. Better safe than sorry. Search for a tutorial and use aluminium foil to protect the plastic and capacitors.

FYI -Hold a piece of solder in front of the heat gun and you get a good idea as to how long it takes to melt the solder. I know it's different stuff but you have a good idea.

Good luck.

Your deffinately suffering from the GPU and scaler chip getting hot - make sure to put some good thermal paste on there along with possibly using a heatsink on the scaler chip - the more cooling mods you can do, the better.  Try a 12v fan and fanshroud mod as well - GOOD LUCK.

Heat sinks on the RAM probably isn't going to help any, but use thermal adhesive. You can try putting a 1mm washer between your GPU heatsink and the 2 RAM chips below it, there's a pretty good chance that will fix your problem, at least temporarily, though using a heat gun (properly, if there is such a thing) would get you a more permanent fix, when you add in some extra cooling.
