Wil This Degrade The Picture Quality?
« on: July 21, 2008, 10:08:00 PM »

well first VGA is fine for all resolutions just remember its analog signal.

Also most computer monitors are 16x10 aspect ratio and the 360 runs at 16x9 aspect ratio so unless your monitor has pixel mapping its going to stretch the image alittle bit vertically.

EDIT:the monitor runs at 1920x1200 resolution which is 16x10 aspect ratio like i said, the 360 runs at max 1920x1080...im reading that it does have 1:1 pixel mapping so VERY GOOD...i have to say tho, why are you running it through VGA, it has hdmi?

EDIT AGAIN!!: why are you getting that tv tuner to vga signal thingy, Why didnt you just get the microsoft vga cables !!!

If your 360 has HDMI, then just get the HDMI cable, if not, then get a 360 VGA cable (MS brand) and run it at 1920x1080, as Dark Seraph suggested.  You'll have black bar(s), but you'll also have a very nice picture, with 1:1 pixel mapping.

He's using the VGA box for watching TV...nothing wrong with that. If it does deinterlacing and upscaling that's very nice.

read the specifications of it..it takes in analog rgb signals and converts them to VGA, component or composite or s-vid signals to VGA.

also dude your screwed if you bought that.

# Supported Resolutions:
# 1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz
# 1600 x 1200 @ 60 Hz
# 1440 x 1050 @ 60 Hz
# 1440 x 900 @ 60 Hz
# 1280 x 1024 @ 60/75 Hz
# 1280 x 768 @ 60 Hz
# 1024 x 768 @ 60/75 Hz
# 800 x 600 @ 60/75 Hz
# 640 x 480 @ 60/75 Hz

doesnt support your monitors resolution, the highest widescreen resolution is 1680x1050 which is too big for 720p and too small for 1080p.

Like we said get either the HDMI cable or the M$ vga cable...that box will be a pain in the ass if you use it.

If he's only using it for TV it should be no problem. He can upscale SDTV to 1600x1200 and keep the 4:3 aspect. If he was watching HDTV he could just use HDMI (with a set top box), or I'm sure he'd just use an HDTV TV tuner on his PC.

It would be a waste of money, just use VGA.

No, you should just use the VGA cable for the 360, and by a VGA>DVI cable for connecting your PC to the monitor, then you can just switch sources on the monitor.
