Screen Freeze / Artifacts But No Rrod
« on: June 06, 2008, 11:59:00 PM »

i am getting the same thing, i start up the 360, it goes thru the introduction, makes it to the dashboard and then the FREEZE...sometimes it takes about 2 minutes, but most the time it is within 10-15 seconds.  I never get the 3RROD.

I tried heating up the GPU by placing the fan over the CPU and letting it get hot for 15 minutes, then i shut it down for 15 minutes to cool, then i start it back up, and it freezes again...do i need to do a different xclamp fix (current fix are the screws from the bottom of the motherboard, and not all the way from the bottom of the metal casing) or do i need to do a reflow with a heat gun on all the chipsets (ana/southbridge/cpu/gpu)???

update: i have the screws really tight on the motherboard (this is when it starts up to dashboard but freezes almost instantly), so i backed them off about 1/8th of a turn and i started it up and I finally got 3RROD and error 0022, i then loosened them another 1/8th of a turn and it comes on, but freezes up again like it did when the screws were really tight???

I need some direction guys, please help???

You think maybe the problem is no one knows a solution? Quit crying, and do some research on 0022 - from what I've read, it's a CPU error. Overheating the system isn't going to fix a single thing, especially when you're overheating the GPU and it's not even your problem.

I've got the same problem,.... then I did the x-clamp replacement and got rrod and secondary error 0022

damn those xbox360 like to rrod.... pfff tried a few tutorials but didn't fix mine.

Anyway, my x360 is out of warranty (only 2 years here) that's why I tried it myself

I did the x-clamp replacement.

I used 2 different types of thermal paste : OCZ thick thermal paste and Zalman thermal paste (thinner)

The problem I had was that when I played or watched a WMV of MP4 the xbox360 would FREEZE the picture after about 20 minutes, then I have to turn it off -> then on and RROD, after half an hour it works and then again 20 minutes and freeze...

I did the x-clamp tut with the baking and stuff and at exactly the same time around 20minutes it freezes and after the when you turn off and then on RROD ... with secondary error code 0022.

I also tried the 12v mod with extra fans on maximum speed but this doesn't help anything.

I tried the creditcard/phonecard pieces around cpu and gpu but then my xbox360 froze after 5 minutes !!! and then turn on/off RROD with same error code 22.

Could it be the thermal paste ? do you really need special one ? As I use those with good results in my computers. Or is it a soldering / bending problem ?

I am having the same problem.  I can pop in a game and load it no prob but I am getting the video artifacts on the screen and after about 2 mins of playing it freezes.  no red rings.  Anyone know if perhaps it is tightness of the screws?  I have heard other people fix this with a new DVD drive but I dont know how reliable that is.  any ideas?

I also have a similar problem. My 360 locks up at the same point on boot. I can hear sounds but video locks up with the x box logo barely distinguishable. The console just turned off after about a 6 hour session. Upon my return the next day it wouldn't boot into anything dashboard game dvd etc. M$ said i can still send it in for repair seance i never registered it. However the seal is broken and and id prefer not to get a new Lighton drive.

Is there any way to fix this my self or should i take my chances with M$ ?

Please any info is appreciated.

Thanks
