Newbie Help No Picture?
« on: March 30, 2008, 04:25:00 AM »

I am in the exact same boat.  No RROD.  System boots up and runs, but there was no picture.  I have tried different cables, different tv, and different games.  It's definitely my Xbox.  Just today i tried it again.  To my surprise all was well when i turned it on... For a little.  Was playing College Hoops for about 20 minutes all good, and then the picture got messed up.  Game still played fine and the picture didnt go away, it was just messed up.  Kind of pixelated looking and kind of like that movie a scanner darkly.  Picture for reference.  IPB Image

I did some digging around other forums and really got nowhere.  They all just accepted it and sent the Xbox in.  You guys here seem to know a lot more than any of them about the internals and stuff so i was wondering if you have any tips.

I thought i saw in another thread that this basically is a RROD error and the box isnt recognizing it.  I cant afford the repair fee to MS right now but if i sent it in would it be covered by their new warranty?

I have never opened my xbox or done anything that would void my warranty

My picture was a lot more distorted than that.  But i mean, it's doing everything that everyone else has already talked about.

Messed up picture, then no picture

I think it should be something with the Gpu and heatsink not making good contact in my opinion.

My console had the same problem. I was sure it was the prelude to the rrod, so and I don't actually recommend doing this but while the console was on and there was no video, I picked the console up and started shaking it and it went to the 3 rlod (note: there was no game in it when I shook it). I guess this confirms what everyone already knows. Anyhow I called microsoft and told them my console had both issues, sometimes no video...sometimes 3 rlod. They said they would send me a box for repairs. So they must know that the 2 are related. Anyways if your seal is still intact, it couldn't hurt to call and see if they'll fix it.

yeah this is what I originally thought when it was first happening to me, I am still not sure what the exact cause is, but I did find a fix, and thats the link I posted further up the thread... So I did add more Arctic Silver, and you only need a rice grain sized amount...

I'm really not quite sure bout this problem, my best bet would be GPU overheating/ not making contact due to shitty X-clamps... Its fixable, if you want to waste a few hours and go through a buncha BS and buy the screws and washers from Lowes and fix it.

Cus if you modded it or opened it, Micro$oft aint fuckin with you, lol
