Glitchy Surround Sound?
« on: February 25, 2008, 09:18:00 AM »

I've only just noticed my 360 has a problem, for some reason the sound'll cut out for half a second to two seconds everynow and then seemingly randomly, but only through the Optical. I've tried different cables, even a different surround sound system.. so I'm pretty sure it's the 360.

Has anyone else experienced weird slight sound cutouts?

I'm surprised there aren't more complaints on this. I had my 360 elite but always had it hooked up to just my TV. I recently bought a sourround sound receiver and it had that problem with sound skipping everytime I used the xbox. First through HDMI (that came with the system) then optical. Not blaming the Xbox 360, I brought the new surround sound system back. I actually upgraded to a great sound system and hooked up the 360 confident that the sound would be perfect. Well you wouldn't believe it did it to me again. I search and found some people complaining about this issue and never resolved it. Was there any solution to this problem, or should I just send the xbox back ?

No idea, perhaps it's just a glitch in the way the 360 uses it's Toslink surround sound, but it's nice to know I'm not the only one.

I got the exact same problem.  Its annoying me   Im on the phone right now with microsoft, they put me on hold to find more info     well,  they think it has to do with my cable so they are sending me a new cable and i have to let them know if it solved the problem. I dont think it will.

Sega superstars is really glitching with the sound,  i first thought it had to do with the loading of the disk, cause sometimes the screen also freezes for a milisecond when the sound glitches out.  Its really annoying and i told them im not happy with this 360 performance   but i dont think theres much to be done about it

when i call them back after i checked the cable, ill tell them about the loading of the disk, m aybe that can help   i remember having the same sort of problem on the regular xbox,  for example,  Fable would just skip sound and freeze frame a bit,   but then i called and had my xbox repaired, they put in a new dvd drive and problem was solved.

anyway, im glad im not the only one too lol

I have this same problem as well and its really pissing me off.  Im using the optical audio plugged into my computer optical in.

I can play games fine for about an hour and then i start to get sound studders.  I got it so bad that when i was playing devil may cry 4 my sound popped and then completely went out!!!!

I think it has to do with over heating, and i also think its related to the gpu because it seems to happen more during high FPS

I want to return my box to target but ill prob just end up with another just like it

crazy i was playing eternal sonata and i got the sound studdering, i was playing with it for about 20 minutes and then i paused it, when i unpaused my sound was gone.  I didn't have anywhere to save so i continued playing with no sound. grr.gif

But guess what, after 30 minutes of no sound all the sudden it comes back!  Then in about 20 minutes it starts studdering again.

This tells me it is NOT the gpu as i guessed earlier, it must be the audio cheap overheating...i can not believe M$ has not been locked up for releasing this garbage yet.

after looking into this (yup i got the same problem too) i think the issue lies with the xbox optical connection itself.seems to be a bit of rather dodgey workmanship. if you just give the cable itself a slight knock you'll get the problem. all i done for a temporary fix is let the optical han so its close to centre as possible and push my theatre system back against the wall so it holds the cable sturdy on that end and all is fine 90% the time  dry.gif
