It's a broken solder joint. A real fix would be a reflow, which can be done with a heatgun if you're careful and watch some videos first.

So basically only the GPU needs to be heated?

Yes, but make sure you do it carefully, and watch some videos for help. I take no responsibility (obviously) if it doesn't work, or if it makes things worse. Use foil (lots) for insulation, and of course, remove the GPU heatsink first.

You can look for broken traces around the chip, look for a bridge, make sure there isn't a bent pin, etc. Worst case scenario is you need to find a dead board with the same chip you have, and have a pro swap 'em out.

Lol I only had it on the bottles when I was trying to fix my 3RLOD. I only turned it on for about 8 seconds to see if it still had the 3 red lights. But after it's fixed, I always put it back in the case with the fan everything  smile.gif

Can't I just heat it by leaving the GPU on without a heatsink attached? And have a heatsink and fan attached to the CPU so that doesn't overheat.

The system will overheat and shut down before the 360 even gets half as hot as it needs to be to flow lead free solder.

A heat gun look like a hair dryer - you may want to watch those videos again. You can get one at ACE for $20. There are a couple links on these forums to videos too, it just takes some searching.

Alright so I have cleaned the GPU. Which part of the chip do I heat exactly?

(IMG:http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a268/ghy135/album%202/timechangegpuchip.jpg)

I know I will need to remove the white plastic and fans but Im planning to heat it next weekend so I have time.

And should look for a specific heatgun or will any heatgun get the job done?

How did you go with this?

I've got a video problem atm and was just researching methods to fix it.

There's a very good tutorial on Google Video for doing the heat gun. BTW, that's a beautifully cleaned GPU.
