I have both a phillips and a samsung drive, and don't know which one to use.  Which have you guys had the best experience with?  As far as reading backups, noise level, etc.

whichever reads your discs... and you say "best for backups" then samsung would be lower on the list, as phillips and thomson can read dvd+r
(which i can get 100 riteks for 30 bucks) so in my opinion.. thomson works out to be teh best for my situation (since i have one that reads as fast as a sasmsung, plus reads teh +R format)
everyone will disagree... but whatever. just opinions.

well if u go by reputation, the sammy are by far the best. but i have had a phillips that would hardly read originals, one that has troiuble reading most things, and a thompson that reads everything.
it all depends on how lucky you are. each drive is a bit different.
i have no luck, and thus have had 2 drives that dont work properally.

if i could get me hands on a samsung 616t, then id be fine. get me dad to mod it, its all good biggrin.gif

but that can wait for now. if you have a drive that has some trouble, tweak it. thats works wonders

i have a thompson... it was working fine until it started to go bad... now it had dirty disk errors all over the place, even with brand new games the first time i try playing them (yes i tried other copies of the same game) so yeah... i dont think it matters much if all youre doing is originals... but if the drive is over 2 years like mine (launch day) then thompson could end up sucking ass in the long run. im gonna swap it out for a sammy in about a week anyway

who voted for thompson. the only reason would probably be the quietness, but whats the point if it doesn't read much?

I say sammy cause it can read cd-r's no prob, but I cannot get it to read dvd+r.  Whereas my friend's 2 year old Thomson reads dvd+r's no problem.  It loads them within 5 seconds.  My samsung makes a bunch of noise and then says error or empty.  My other friend uses a phillips and it reads cd-r's aswell.  I have not tested it with dvd+r.  I have had no problems on any of the drives with dvd-r(compusa brand).

the poll is poo due to the fact that there are two types of stock Phillips drive
two types of stock samsung drive, and a further two types of samsung drive that will work with the xbox!
