it sounds like a problem in the port... have you looked into the port and see if there is something in there that might be causing problems maybe blast it with some canned air?

the only other thing I can really suggest is trying some contact cleaner on the pins withing the port.. buy some CFC free contact cleaner from radio shack then with your console off and unplugged spray some in the port and on the AV connector and plug in and unplug the av cable a number of times...

let it sit for an hour or two unplugged to dry then set it all up and see if it helps.
