Distorted Video, Horizontal Lines, Low Color Depth

Now it's intermittently RROD with three red lights in addition to the issues above. Anyone run into this before? The video issue, not the RROD's. Want to know if this is a hopeless situation or not.

I picked up what's probably a refurb 360, I started off using component out, it used to be every so often the image quality went all wonky, horizontal scan lines fuzzing in and out and then the image would settle into what looks like a low color depth. Then the box started booting without video, now it hardly boots video and when it does the image is always bad ( or quickly downgrades to ) as described above and shown below, including the dashboard.

- tried multiple resolutions, 480p, 780p, 1080i, no change
- tried component and composite, no change
- tried multiple tv's, Sanyo LCD projector and Panasonic LCD TV, no change
- tried new HDTV cable, no change
- tried updated dashboard, no change

Any ideas? I can't seem to get component to work at all now and composite video boots only when the box feels like it. Any help would be appreciated, seems too me like the GPU is pooched. The image below is what I'm seeing on the screen, the photo is not a bad photo, this is what the xbox is putting out.

man i'm glad i'm not the only one with this problem...it started out for me while playing call of duty 4 and has got progressivly worse. glad to see that you tried different cables and TV's and etc...i was curious about trying those options but dont have the resources to do so. i get the exact same kind of picture quality you posted...when i do i reset the system then get no picture at all! it just seems to work when it wants to. luckily i have one more month left on my warranty so i called microsoft so i can send it in for repairs...of course they sounded very skeptical and acted like theyve never heard of this problem....so we'll see in about 2 months when i get it back!!!!!!!

Mine does that too, turns out that it's the bga connection under the gpu that's wonky. I'm sending mine to get the gpu reballed. www.superriorreball.com does it for $75 plus shipping

Cool, I'll try a heat gun and see where it goes. Thanks for the replies.
