Hdmi Digital Audio Optical Hack
« on: December 19, 2007, 12:29:00 PM »

Been reading around about the ways to connect both HDMI and a digital optical SPDIF (Toslink) cable for 5.1 surround sound.  I read about the hack to take apart the component cable and remove the grey plastic, but I heard that this cause some reset issues as a side effect.

Does anyone make a 3rd party cable like the official Microsoft one?  I found a few on ebay such as this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/6-ft-AV-HD-Video-VGA-C...1QQcmdZViewItem

But it looks like the grey plastic is the same as with the component cable so it wouldn't allow plugging in the HDMI cable as well.

I heard the reset issues can be fixed by removing a jumper wire inside the actual connector, but I don't really want to take apart my connector if I can help it.

Thanks.

The reset issue is discussed in the comments here:

Sounds like it might be fixable by setting the switch to TV after taking off the casing.

Unfortunately based on the comments it sounds like this hack does not work with the Falcon chip 360s (which I have).  Has anyone been able to do this on a Falcon 360?
