Hdmi Consoles Now Need Vga Handshake?
« on: September 28, 2007, 09:46:00 AM »

Picked up a Halo 3 LE console yesterday (PAL) and it doesn't behave correctly with a VGA cable

If I start the console up to go to dash then it takes a good minute before it boots and I see the 360 logo.

If I start the console with a disc in the drive then the console doesn't boot at all, the controller connect but no image or no sound.

I ended up returning it to the store because I thought it was faulty, got my 2nd one back and it is the exact same. I plug the machine into PC monitor (instead of my HDTV) and it boots instantly and works straight away. Very odd

Very odd considering my old 360 sitting right here works just perfectly with the VGA lead

Well I don't think this applies to all new HDMI consoles, I am using a new Premium Console equipped with HDMI and my VGA cable works perfectly with my monitor.  I am using the Microsoft VGA cable and noticed nothing wrong with mine.  You should try hooking it up to another TV or using the supplied componet cables sounds like something else could possibly wrong with the console.

Just my $0.02

He already did try it in a different monitor.

Tha's very strange. I'm definitely gonna check this with a friends HDMI equipped unit before buying one as I use VGA on my Panasonic PH10.

As far as handshake is concerned, it should not have anything to do with handshake over VGA.

if you're not using HDMI then there is no handshake and your console shouldn't even be attempting to make one.

I is entirely possible that BOTH consoles are faulty... there's no reason you should be experiencing the things you are.
