define "can't"

Is the option not available in the 360's dashboard?

Is the Xbox 360 giving you an error message when you try to select 1080p?

Is the tv simply displaying a back screen when you select the 1080p option?

Is the tv showing a garbled image instead of a normal image when you select the 1080p option?

etc.

the more precise you are in your explanation of the problem the better we can help you... I've got no advice to give from the question you've asked... it's too broad.

That is very odd. My brother has that exact monitor, and I hooked it up to my Elite via HDMI>DVI cable and it worked beautifully. Does your console have the latest updates? Have you tried the old standby of power cycling everything? Unhooking and reconnecting all the cables? I did not try a direct HDMI cable connection, but I know of other people using it. Try the DVI if you have the right cable.

I'm not sure this problem has anything to do with the TV..

I'd say your console is maybe lacking an update or simply doesn't think the cable your using. What brand/model cable are you using anyway (not all HDMI cables are created equal).

What do you have plugged into the normal AV port?

if you've got something plugged in there I'd say remove it, if you've got nothing plugged in there try plugging in the special audio only breakout box that is meant to be used with the HDMI cable.

yeah well HDMI to DVI might work, I will have to wait till the cable comes in the mail. Is it possible if you can check your brothers tv directly connected with hdmi cable. That would help me alot. Thank You

I don't get down to his house very often, sorry. Do you have all the latest console updates?

Well, other than using the DVI port, I suggest you use the VGA cable, or the component at 1080i.....

yeah it probably is a handshake issue with with the console just not communicating right with your TV.

is there any option on the elites to disable HDCP? It's completely unnecessary so if you can turn it off you're better off without it.

I haven't found that option on my Elite, it is probably there but just not accessible to consumers. Bummer.
