I Think My Luck Has Finally Run Out.
« on: May 12, 2007, 11:38:00 AM »

Okay, so, I have my modded 360, it's got bunch of case mods, and the new xtreme hitachi firmware(2.4 stealth). I just flashed the DVD drive yesterday. Now today, I played gears for about 3 hours straight. It froze once about 1-2 hours into playing(doesn't freeze much, but thought nothing of it). I rebooted it, and it was working fine(great!). I played for and hour or two longer, and it froze again(uh-oh), but this wasn't a regular freeze, it made a screeching sound(tv audio), and had fuzzy lines all over, in a repeated pattern(also had the image frozen in the background). I though to myself, "OH SHIT," I took Gears of War out, and turned it off. I booted it back up, and it began to startup fine, then into the dashboard it seemed fine. I put in gears(a backup that I made), and it got to where you press start, and did the same type of freezing. At this point im freaking out. I tried again, only with crackdown, this did the same. I put it in front of a fan for a while(my box was off) to cool it down, this did nothing. It did not overheat, and never has. So, dear readers, i'm asking you if you have any idea to what could be happening? I was thinking that the GPU is taking a shit. could there be any ways to fix this? Oh, and btw, im using component connections. I have tried both HDTV component, and the normal yellow. I can't seem to find anything on the forum like this. Please help me! Should I try to reflash back to the original firmware? The DVD drive flashing seems too convenient to not be the problem. I really don't have any clue of what do do. Should I replace the x-clamps? Towel trick?

Man, I really hope someone can provide some insight on what is causing this. Oh and by the way, if the x-clamp replacement works, please post, or PM me. And when you did the towel trick, did it still freeze with the fuzz?

Alright, that's wonderful news, I plan on doing the x-clamp replacement within a few days. I hope I can fix this before the Halo 3 Beta comes out!

It won't let me edit, so I am going to say it here...I did the X-clamp replacement(RBJtech's) and lo and behold, by 360 breathes again! I'm amazed at how something like the shape of a clamp can cause so many problems. Anyways, if someone has graphical errors, don't hesitate to do this mod, it's excellent! Thank you all.

Are you all having the same problems with the originals discs, or just backups?

I was having troubles with both. It froze about the same spot using an original, or a backup, but it works now. I think since I caught it before the GPU went completely, before I got the 3rlod, it helped even more. I also never did the overheating part at the end, probably a good thing...
