VGA and DVI-A (analog) are the same thing

HDMI and DVI-D (digital) are the same thing.

the DVI connector can carry both signals (this is called DVI-I), but as HDMI is a purely digital connector, you can't put a VGA/DVI-A signal through it in any way.

Basically if your Tv supports DVI-I, then yes you can use  VGA-DVI connector.

You won't be gaining anything over plugging the 360 straight in via VGA though.

I am not looking for any quality increase I am just looking for a easier hookup rather than using a switcher since my component hookups are used
