Yes.  If you connect a subwoofer to your receiver, it will work.

Ok got it working BUT it only works when dolby is active... Not on CD's. To get it working on them i use my xbox and xbmc to send output to all speakers which forces my amp into dolby.. But it doesnt sound to great because my center and rear speakers arnt really made for music use like me L & R are... any ideas?

Basically, I have the same thing, I fixed it in a ghetto way, but I have 2 subs.

I use one for Dolby Digital, and 1 inline with my L & R for when I am not in DD.

CDs are encoded in Stereo... which means it only has data for the left and right speakers, it doesn't include subwoofer data.

Any system that outputs to the subwoofer from a CD is doing so of it's own accord because CDs  literally don't have that data.

If you want to hear it and hear it mixed properly I'd recommend buying some DVD-Audio discs.

Stereo based audio sources were never intended to be played through surround sound systems.

That is exactly how I set mine up at first. I kept trippin the system though. The car amp draws more power than the receiver amp pushes. It would happen during big booms. When the sound ended the system would turn the amp back on.

I spliced the front channel RCA either L or R to my sub input, so it gets the signals from say playing music through PC streaming, because it's not in 5.1, thats how I get sound to my subs.

There was a thread about the music player not playing mp3s when you have 5.1 setup, the bass is gone to people that have sub separates.

I run optical from xbox to my receiver, then I took the signal from front channel L and ran it to the sub as well, I did it ghetto style, as I havent gotten couple Y-adaptors/addition RCAs so I can "splice" a front channel signal to the subs.

I am not sure if you guys are talking about the same thing, but XBox (Optical) to my Sony Receiver with 7.1 and sub, I had to do what I said to get Music Player to have subwoofer "sounds" coming through, In game everything is fine, because the games most of them output 5.1

I am strictly talking music cds/streaming music through XBox dashboards music player
