Rolling Horizontal Bars In 480i Not In Hd
« on: December 13, 2006, 05:30:00 PM »

I bought my 360 about 2 weeks ago, and one of the first things I noticed when I plugged it in was that there were rolling horizontal bars going from bottom to top on my SDTV.  I tried it in high definition mode on a larger HDTV and did not have the same problem, also, i tried 480i on the same HDTV, but had the same problem, which leads me to believe it is a problem with the Cable or the Xbox360 itself.  I plan to borrow a friend's A/V cable in order to test it out, but does anyone have any suggestions? Should I contact MS and see if I can get a new cable, or should I exchange the system at the retail store which I bought it from and let them deal with sending it back to MS?

You did the right thing trying to borrow your friend's AV cable...

Swapping TVs is a good first test

the next good test is swapping cables

If the problem goes away ---> it's the cable (have MS replace it)

IF the problem doesn't go away ---> Swap out the power supplies (it could be interference from a faulty PSU)

If the problem goes away ---> it's the PSU (have MS replace it)

If the problem doesn't go away ---> have your friend bring his 360 to your house and try it on your TV.

If the problem goes away ---> it's the console it self (have MS replace it)

If the problem doesn't go away ---> It's probably the power in your own house, or other external interference you might consider investing in a power conditioner

Thanks alot man, I figured it would come down to a simple troubleshooting, to logically narrow down the problem.  I'm gonna go through all the situations and see what I can find. Thanks alot!
