Should I Buy The Hd Dvd?
« on: November 28, 2006, 08:38:00 PM »

i want to get the HD DVD player for my 360 but my HD TV will only do 1080i, i was looking through the manual to see if it will say anything about 1080p but no luck. Question is, would it be pointless to buy a HD DVD player if my tv wont do 1080p??? please help.

No, since you will still get HD movies in 720p and 1080i, just becase you won't get the 'best' res doesn't mean its pointless. HD movies at 720p still look breath-taking.

I have the HD-DVD add on and it is hooked up to a tv that only does 1080i thru component. The picture is breathtaking at 1080i. Not only is the resolution there but things like contrast, color, and brightness are all nicely balanced.

The audio is great but different than a stand alone player. I find i have to turn the volume up to get the same volume output but once i do it sounds great. A stand alone player should give you beter audio but the audio on the 360 is still great.

1080p is no reason to or to not get the unit. I would recommend it as I have enjoyed HD-DVD for 200 bucks.

well sounds like the HD DVD would be a good investment, can somebody tell me what outputs the HD DVD has on the back? My tv has component, HDMI, RGB and composite so which would be the best way to hook it up?

USB.  It connects to the 360....so whatever you have the 360 connected to the TV with.

Currently the 360 dosen't support DTS.
Everything is decoded in software and re-encoded as DD5.1 for output to reciever.

Some say if you select the True HD audio over Dolby Plus the sound quality is better.

MS plans to release an update to add DTS playback

If your TV accepts 1080i, then you're fine.

The TV will deinterlace the 1080i to its native resolution and the image will be pretty fantastic.

Go for it - you won't regret it at all.
