Audio/no Video Problem Fixed With Heat Gun Fix
« on: November 27, 2006, 01:35:00 AM »

I'm glad to inform those out there, that have the problem of their system not displaying any video output (only audio), that I have successfully fixed my console by using a heat gun that I got from ace hardware for $21 and following the heat gun fix that can be found on this forum and the internet.

If you know for sure that it isn't the a/v cable and your warranty is up, I'd take a shot at the heat gun fix as well as buying some thermal paste (ex. AS5) and reapplying over the CPU and GPU die (Microsoft's sloppy work).  Now I have a modded system that runs a whole lot cooler with no problems  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

This is a testimonial that the heat gun fix also applies to the audio only problem. There is hope (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Just out of curiousity, have you had to do any other fixes since the initial heat gun fix back in November?  I repair consoles and give them short warranties when I send them out, so I only want to do this if it's going to last.

Does anyone know how to make this fix last? I got a black screen again last night, right after having the screen freak out a little bit with colors. Reboot and just black screen.
So I got out the heat gun again. Gunned JUST the back of the GPU and ANA, nowhere else. I redid up my MKIII with washers/bolts etc. This is probably the 4th time I've resurrected my box like this? Can anyone tell me how to make the fix last this time? The box is working 100% again now.

I was thinking that my bolts are backing out, since they were kinda loose when I went in this time. I think I might use holding washers the next time I have to redo it?

Anybody? Thanks.

It's just the nature of the beast. The lead free solder is the culprit - though if you get rid of the problem again, add some extra cooling, make sure your thermal paste is on perfect, and make sure your X-Clamps are replaced perfectly. This can keep the error from ever returning.
