Vga To Component, Is It Possible?
« on: November 13, 2006, 12:59:00 PM »

i have never used my 360 with a vga cable, but i've heard that the 360 will upscale dvd's with the vga cable.  what i'm wondering is my tv doesn't have a vga port, it only has component, and i was wondering if there was a vga to component adapter or if it's possible to make one?  if so, would it upscale dvd's that way?

You can use a cable with a VGA connector at one end and component at the other. The two signals do work in a slightly different way and your screen needs to be able to accept support that.

On my screen I select Component for standard HD signals and then switch it to RGB to accept VGA through the same port using this exact cable linked to a 360 VGA cable.

The cable is usually called a VGA to Component break out cable. Some have two extra cables for the additional part of the signal VGa uses over component. This won't be an issue if your TV supports it though.

Very, VERY few televisions support switching between YPbPr and RGB.

Also if yours doesnt I wouldnt advise getting a VGA to Component adapter as it will probably add extra lag to the display that you do not want.
